Sconce with lampshade

When creating a cozy and comfortable atmosphere in the room, lighting plays an important role. In addition to the choice of finishes, color palette and furniture is very important to determine the type of lighting. Today there is a huge variety of wall lamps, which, alone or in addition to the ceiling fixtures, help to place accents in the interior.

Merits

One of the varieties of wall lighting devices are sconces. They are a structure consisting of a bracket to which the lampshade or the ceiling is attached. Sconces with lampshade are presented in a huge number of designs and serve not only to illuminate the room, but also to decorate it. The name of this device has French roots and is translated as "hand".

This is explained by the fact that you can turn on the sconce by only one movement of your hand, without getting up from a cozy chair or sofa.

Sconce can be attributed to the universal lighting devices, since they can be hung on the walls in any premises, regardless of the ceiling height. They are easy to install and, due to their low weight and size, can quickly be moved.

There is a wide variety of lampshades, made in different styles and from different materials, which allows the use of wall lamp with lampshade in any interior. Various designs of sconces make it possible to supply light in the desired direction.

This allows you to zone the room, to create a special atmosphere and to emphasize the necessary objects and parts of the room.

Kinds

A wall lamp consists of a body, a diffuser (lampshade) and a lamp. There are mobile or rigid sconces. In the movable design lampshade can be rotated in any direction. In a rigid construction the angle of the lens does not change.

It depends on the shape of the lampshade what lighting will be created.

The lampshade can be made as follows:

  • if the lens is closed on top, a bright spot of light is produced under the lighting device itself;
  • the lampshade, closed on the bottom, adjusts the direction of the light flow upwards, and the ceiling and walls reflect the light;
  • soft light can be obtained when the diffuser completely covers the lamp;
  • Combined bras let the light in all directions: through the lampshade, up and down.

Materials

Diffuser can be made of various types of material: from fabric, glass, paper or plastic. The main condition is the ability of the material to transmit at least a little light. Each material has its own pros and cons.

Sconces with fabric shade are budget options. Chintz lampshades are practical and last a long time. Satin diffusers due to the dense texture well mute the light and create a cozy atmosphere. Devices made with the use of silk look especially luxurious, but the material itself is not durable. The atlas has a good light transmission capacity, but, like any fabric shade, attracts dust.

Plastic diffusers are very easy to clean. They can be washed or simply wiped with a rag. This is one of the practical and inexpensive options for wall lights. Sconces with glass shade or crystal look luxurious and expensive, but they cost a lot.

The lamp with a green shade has a calming effect and is pleasing to the eye. Blue, silver and violet tones of diffusers are recommended for offices or rooms with a working environment, since cold tones have a positive effect on mental activity. Wall sconces with black or brown lenses dim the light and create a pleasant soothing shimmer that is well suited for a bedroom.

Place in the interior

Wall lights can be placed in any room. Both in the corridor and in the nursery they will easily find their use.

Most often sconces are hung on the walls in the bedroom. In this room, they will help create a soft, muffled light that is so necessary to quickly relax and fall asleep. As a rule, a wall light is installed next to the bed or vanity. The close proximity of the wall lamp to the bed helps to regulate the lighting, without getting up from the bed.

A single sconce in the bedroom can serve as an additional source of light. A few wall lights installed in pairs, completely replace the general lighting.

In the living room sconces are installed for several reasons: in order to correct the deficiencies of the room, highlight the seating area and make the necessary accents in the interior.

In a room with low ceilings sconces are placed on the entire perimeter of the room with light directed upwards. This visually makes the ceiling higher. In the living room, where the ceiling is too high, the sconces are placed closer to the floor. Thus, the atmosphere in the room becomes more romantic and cozy. If you symmetrically install wall lights around a mirror or picture, this will effectively emphasize them without unnecessary glare.

Lampshade wall lamps are also appropriate in the bathroom, corridor and children's room. In the kitchen with them you can highlight the dining area, separating it from the working. With the help of wall lights in the bathroom emit a mirror.

Variants of the use of sconces in various interiors are diverse. Wall lamp with lampshade will not only be a bright design element, but also perform many different functions.
