Carrot Juicer

Much can be said about the benefits of carrot juice. This drink is rich in various microelements and vitamins, but it has one major drawback - it is not so easy to prepare. Far from every technique that can squeeze out juices will be suitable for carrots, so you have to think a little about its correct choice.

To date, there are many types of juicers. They differ from each other not only in appearance and power, but also in the way products are processed. Which of them is most suitable for self-preparation of carrot juice?

Variety of species

The number of different models of devices for the production of juices at home is quite large. Not everyone can immediately understand this diversity. When choosing a technique, you should focus on many things: price, quality, power, operating principle, performance.

It is also necessary to proceed from your personal wishes. Carrots are a fairly solid product, so a juicer must be powerful enough. At the same time, its resistance to stresses to which it will be exposed every day is important. That is, you need the most durable working mechanism and body. This requirement is the "gold standard" for all devices that can be used to produce juice from potatoes, beets, carrots.

It is also important to understand that the body has a vitamin and quality composition of fresh juice. It is easy to understand that not every synthetic material is really suitable for spinning. Therefore, when choosing a juicer, attention is paid to what material its body and components of the mechanism are made of.

As for the principle of operation, either screw or centrifugal devices are suitable for root crops. At the same time, augers possess one feature: they also operate from the network, but they can also have a manual mode. In addition, they can be of horizontal type, single-screw and twin-screw, as well as differing among themselves by a number of characteristics.

Screw

Auger-type juicers have become quite popular as machines for making juice from solid products. Their principle of operation may remind many of the grinder. Vegetables or fruit through the neck get inside, then grind into a mush with the help of a screw - a large spiral-shaped rotating rod. Then this gruel is filtered through a special very fine strainer, passing forward under the pressure of the auger. At the exit, we get a delicious juice, and the used remnants of products, the so-called cake, are thrown off by equipment in a special compartment.

Such devices are considered the most effective. The fact is that the specifics of their device significantly increases performance. About 95% of the product is used, so all the nutrients get into the juice, and very little waste is obtained. It is not surprising that when using auger juicers, the drink is quite thick and bright to taste. This technique is great not only for carrots, but also for celery, potatoes, cabbage, pumpkin.

The resulting juice is in a closed space and does not undergo premature oxidation, which has a positive effect on its nutritional properties.Also one of the advantages of screw juicers is the ability to work for quite a long time and withstand heavy loads. It is convenient, if necessary, for example, to prepare carrot juice for the winter in large volumes.

The advantages of screw juicers do not end only with the features of their work. They are also very convenient to use, especially models of the vertical type. All that is required from the user is to load the necessary products into the receiving compartment, and then the technician will perform all the necessary. The cake is automatically dumped into a separate container, so you do not need to regularly clean the grid, as is the case with other models.

Even twin-screw versions, which have higher power, are practically silent. You can also find a manual version of the juicer with a similar type of work. Of course, the process of making juice on them is more time consuming, however, such a juicer may be ideal for giving, or any other place with problems regarding power supply.

As a result, the following advantages of screw models can be noted:

  • Enough high efficiency.Almost all potential of products is used. The output is about 95% juice;
  • The relatively high quality of the drink. Much depends on the materials used in the housing and the auger, however, as a rule, juices do retain their useful properties;
  • Ease of use and care. Auger juicers are handled just as easily as a regular meat grinder;
  • Easily cope with the processing of solid products;

As for the shortcomings, there are not so many of them. First of all, the relatively high price confuses. Also screw grinders occupy much more space, and have not so many choices in terms of design.

Rotary

The so-called centrifugal or rotor apparatus work on a completely different principle. Inside the products are ground, rotating on a sharp grater. Further, due to the very fast rotation and the resulting centrifugal force, the dry residue is separated into a special compartment for the cake, and the juice is poured into a glass.

If we talk about the quality of the drink, then in a screw juicer it is much better. During rotation, the juice heats up. Also in the bowl begins the process of oxidation.All this leads to the fact that carrot juice will lose a number of vitamins and other elements. In addition, this drink can not be stored for a long time, but it is better to drink within 10 minutes after preparation.

On the other hand, rotary juicers are designed for this. Their main advantage over the screw is speed. Such a technique, even if it has mini dimensions, will process products many times faster, so it is preferable if all you need is a couple of glasses of juice for breakfast.

Performance with this technology of making juice is clearly suffering. About 50% of the original product is used, and this is at best. Thus, for example, for a glass of juice you need about 5-6 pieces of large carrots. In this case, the drink itself will not be so concentrated, and resemble a little diluted nectar.

As mentioned above, such juicers are not intended for the preparation of large volumes of beverage. They do not withstand prolonged load, may overheat. Also work with them is not without its inconveniences. Some models may not be equipped with an automatic discharge of the cake, so the machine will have to disassemble and clean much more often.

Summing up, the following can be said about the advantages of centrifugal models:

  • They have an increased speed of work. You will have to wait just a few seconds, and the juice will be ready;
  • All processes are fully automated;
  • Compared with the screw, such devices are much cheaper;
  • The model range is more diverse. In particular, design solutions allow manufacturers to offer fairly compact and convenient versions of juicers, which practically do not occupy space in the kitchen;

Among the minuses, of course, first of all it is worth emphasizing low productivity. And the output is not too much juice, so the consumption of carrots will be much higher. It should be noted that the rotary juicers are generally inferior to the screw in terms of working with solid products.

What to look for when choosing

Once you have decided on the type of juicer, you should pay special attention to its technical characteristics. Mainly, the power must be sufficient for the machinery to process the hard root vegetable. If you are interested in a screw version of the juicer, then for its effective operation there will be enough power in 150-200 watts.In the case of a rotary device, the required power is within the range of 800-900 W, and the rotational speed is up to 9-10 thousand revolutions per minute. Not every model boasts such characteristics.

If you still want to purchase a model by the type of centrifuge, then be sure to inspect the internal separator. If it is in the shape of a cylinder, then it will have to be removed manually, but the efficiency and speed of work will be much higher. Conical shaped separators are inferior in this, but they may be able to automatically discharge used products.

Do not forget about the quality of the material from which the technique is made. In that case, if plastic is used, it makes sense to abandon a similar model. Quality juicers are usually assembled from aluminum or stainless steel. The abundance of plastic leads to rapid wear, and the benefits from the use of beverages prepared on such a machine will be virtually absent. This is especially true of tanks that must be made of glass.

Reviews

Fans of carrot juice are more likely to leave good reviews about screw juicers.They are more efficient, quiet, spend much less food and electricity. Those who want to make carrot juice by hand can also choose such equipment. On the other hand, if you need only a few glasses of juice during the week, then there is no need to purchase just such a device.

If you focus on price and practicality, it makes sense to get acquainted with some models of rotary juicers that can guarantee a sufficiently high power. Do not forget to pay attention to the quality of equipment, as well as features of its care. Even the cheapest and simplest juicer can delight you with your favorite carrot juice, if handled properly.
