Czech chandeliers

Czech chandeliers are not just glassware. This is a kind of independent phenomenon, and often - a work of art. The secret of such attractiveness lies in the secrets of manufacturing, preserved for centuries.

A bit of history

Bohemian glass from the Czech Republic is called by the name of one of its provinces. Now the territory of this country has somewhat modified its borders, but the products manufactured on its territory are still referred to as “Bohemian crystal”. Although in fact crystal lamps, which will be discussed in this article, and other products made of glass and in other parts of the country.

Around the 16th century, families of glassblowers from Saxony began to move en masse to the territory of Bohemia. To compete with the works of Roman and Venetian masters, whose beauty and grace had already conquered the whole world, changes were needed. Jewelry master Caspar Lehman first began to process crystal according to the Roman technology and make productswith large broad edges that absorbed more light, and accordingly, looked more beautiful.

Another jeweler, Michael Muller, in 1683 changed the formula of the glass itself, adding lead to the composition of the raw material. Due to this, a material has turned out, with properties resembling natural rock crystal. This glass was easier to give the desired shape.

Thus, the glass turned into an elegant crystal that adorns the homes of crowned persons and the powerful of this world. In the Czech Republic is called crystal products, the composition of the raw materials which contain at least a quarter of lead oxide.

Even with the development of modern technology, Czech manufacturers do not trust the entire production process to machines. Just as many centuries ago, some processes, such as polishing or engraving on parts of products, are done manually.

Special features

The first ceiling chandelier appeared in 1724. Joseph Palm became its inventor. In those days, only very rich people could afford such luxury. Today, thanks to the development of technology, products by Czech masters have become much more accessible.

First of all, they are appreciated, of course, for the unique beauty and grace that these lamps differ in, and for the unique rainbow overlap on diamond edges.

This effect is achieved due to the unique composition of the material from which chandeliers and all spare parts are made. The main component of Czech glass is quartz sand. Due to the fact that it is almost absent iron, all the details are crystal clear. And thanks to a special glass processing technology, the rays of light are refracted in the edges and the chandelier begins to sparkle with a brilliant shine. A real Czech chandelier is not just a lighting fixture. This is a sign of delicate taste, wealth and nobility.

How to distinguish the real from the fake

To buy a chandelier did not cause disappointment, you must follow a few rules:

  • When visually inspecting on all the details should not be scratches and other damage, and inside them should not be voids, bubbles and other flaws.
  • If you look through the crystal detail from the chandelier on any object, the image will be refracted, while it will remain transparent. Glass, on the contrary, displays the object as it is.
  • One of the amazing properties of crystal is its ability to stay warm from human touch. Hold the suspension in your hand for a few seconds. If there is crystal in front of you, you will feel its pleasant coolness and it will remain so.
  • Magic crystal bells can not be confused with any other sound. Tap lightly on any of the parts with a pencil or wand and listen: the crystal chandelier will have a delicate, melodic sound and will definitely have a sequel. Glass will have a short rattling sound.

Buy crystal only in proven places - preferably in specialized stores. Czech manufacturers value their name and supply their products with a certificate.

Design features

Originally, Czech chandeliers were the same color. However, over time, designers have learned to add to the raw materials a variety of substances that give the details a particular shade. Different colors are achieved with special additives.

For example, cadmium gives a scarlet rich hue. Gentle pink buds on the shades bloom due to silicon, and elegant violets are obtained by adding manganese and copper. Yellow primroses can be created with the help of uranium, and young green foliage blooms, it is worth adding chrome to the raw materials.

Products from colored crystal are present in the range of many manufacturers. Most often colored do chandeliers consisting of several horns. One of the most striking examples is the six-arm chandelier manufactured by Elite Bohemia, made of colored crystal.

With the development of new technologies, modern lamps are changing. If the first Czech chandeliers were lit with candles, today the whole world uses electricity. And to reduce energy costs, some manufacturers of lamps made of Czech glass offer their customers chandeliers specifically for LED lamps.

All chandeliers can be divided into two subspecies. And Czech-made devices are no exception:

  • Ceiling - They have a glass ceiling in contact with the surface of the ceiling. They are most often used in small rooms with low ceilings. Such chandeliers are present in the assortment of many Czech manufacturers. As a rule, they have compact dimensions and are distinguished by a reasonable price. This once again proves that luxury has become more accessible.
  • Suspended - These are chandeliers in which only the socket itself and not the ceiling lamps come into contact with the ceiling. Most often it is multi-bulb products. The smallest is a chandelier for three lamps. There are also six-lamp lights. They have a richer design than the ceiling. In their manufacture, they often use expensive materials such as gilding, Swarovski crystals, etc. Some parts can be made of metal. But since it is difficult to work with this material, it is most often a single item made to order.
