Shade for bath

The lamp shade for a bath is an important element of decoration, which, along with practical, has a great aesthetic value. It protects the cartridge and the lamp from moisture and mechanical impact, and also serves as an interior decoration.

Special features

Lamp shades for baths and saunas due to operation in extreme conditions must meet the following requirements:

  • Strength. The lampshade or ceiling must be strong enough not to burst from overheating and not to injure people;
  • Environmental Safety. Under the influence of high temperatures there is a risk of release into the environment of harmful fumes from plastic and plastics, therefore the lampshade must be made of natural or harmless artificial materials;
  • Fireproof. The material from which the product is made must be non-combustible or treated with a special compound;
  • Moisture resistance and durability. Do not use fabric and paper options.

Species

Due to the special requirements for products for baths, materials from which you can make a lamp shade for the bath is not so much. The following types of lamp shades are most suitable for work in conditions of high humidity and high temperatures:

  • Glass. Made of thick frosted glass in the form of sealed ceiling wall-mount type. In such models allowed the use of incandescent bulbs. Products may vary in shape and color of the ceiling lens. The lamp shade of the lamp made in the form of a kerosene lamp looks very original. It is transparent and repeats the shape of a kerosene protective glass, and in combination with metal parts the product with such a lamp shade looks very impressive;
  • Heat-resistant plastics, stainless steel and aluminum can also be used in the manufacture of lampshades for some rooms of baths and saunas. The main requirement for them is the ability to withstand temperatures up to 100 degrees;
  • Tree. Environmentally friendly natural material that fits perfectly into the interior of the bath and is its decoration;
  • Himalayan salt. Products with the use of Himalayan salt not only create a pleasant soft light, but also emit beneficial substances into the environment,which have healing properties and a calming effect. When heated, the salt ionizes the room and creates the effect of a salt cave, the healing microclimate of which is useful for bronchopulmonary pathologies, diseases of the central nervous system, and skin problems. Thanks to the translucent structure and the unusual textured pattern, Himalayan salt lamp shades create a soft flickering luminous flux and are able to create a unique atmosphere.
  • Tree. Environmentally friendly natural material that fits perfectly into the interior of the bath and is its decoration.

Slabs of salt can be mounted into the wall on top of the light source and serve as a diffusing screen, and can be made in the form of lamp shades and semi-intercoms.

For the manufacture of industrial lampshades and gratings used cedar, linden and abash, able to withstand extreme conditions and not losing their original appearance for a long time:

  • Linden - the most inexpensive material that exudes a pleasant aroma when heated and does not swell under the influence of high humidity.
  • Cedar and Abash - more expensive materials with a beautiful structure of wood fibers and resistance to heat.It is impossible to burn hands on products made from such tree species, they keep their aesthetic appearance for a long time, they are moisture resistant and durable. Models of such materials can be used in the washing and steam room.
  • Beautiful and rich look lampshades made from several different types of wood. Due to the different structure of the fibers and the shade of the product with such a screen or grid look very worthy.
  • In the manufacture of lampshades with their own hands are used vine, birch bark and bast. These materials are perfectly amenable to cutting and grinding, are not afraid of moisture, inexpensive.
  • Softwood, such as pine and spruce, is not recommended for the production of lamps in the bath because of the increased separation of the resin under the influence of high temperatures and the possibility of burns on the surface of the product.

Wooden lampshades can be made in the form of a diffusing screen and decorative grille. The screen is a flat or slightly curved thin sheet with one or several diffusing holes on it through which the light enters the room. By type of mounting and design screens are divided into angular and wall.For small rooms it is better to choose the corner option. It takes up less space and reliably protects the lamp from unintentional contact and damage.

Wall models require careful selection of lamps, due to the possibility of splashing and the likelihood of mechanical impact.

Lamp shades in the form of a decorative lattice are in perfect harmony with all the elements of the bath decor, made of wood of various species. The grille can be made of flat rectangular strips, long cylindrical parts or rods, which can be either bonded to each other, or have an individual fastening, being installed in the grooves.

Perfectly combined with wooden pots, buckets and scoops, they make the final touch to the design of the room.

When using a lampshade in the form of a wooden lattice, it is necessary to take into account the properties of wood and choose rocks that are not prone to swelling. And the position of the lamp in the opposite direction and its direction on a reflecting convex stainless steel plate will help to avoid striped shadows from the grid. The place of its location depends on the shape of the wooden decorative grilles.If a lamp with such a lampshade is hanging in the corner, then trapezoidal or triangular shapes will do. Wall models can be square or rectangular, and a semicircular grid covering the lamp almost entirely will allow for the achievement of diffusing light.

Making your own hands

The simplest option you can do yourself is the angular diffuse screen, which can be made in the following way:

  • take a thin wooden sheet and mark on it the height and width of the future screen;
  • in the center of the resulting rectangle or square draw a hole of any shape. These can be geometric shapes, the contours of a maple leaf, or any other shape;
  • carefully cut the diffusing hole in the pattern and sand the workpiece thoroughly;
  • cut the screen along the contour outlined in advance and process the edges with sanding paper;
  • using self-tapping screws, connect three bars in the shape of a triangle where the hypotenuse will correspond to the width of the prepared part with a figured hole for dispersion and attach the lower part of the workpiece to the hypotenuse;
  • make another triangle of exactly the same size for fixing the screen on top;
  • Install the finished structure in the corner with fasteners.

Grid-shade can also be made independently:

  • to execute on thick paper a C-shaped drawing of the part that will serve as a frame;
  • Attach the piece to the wooden blank, outline and drink two identical parts, then sand them using emery paper;
  • Retreat from the edge of one centimeter and draw a line that exactly follows the shape of the workpiece. From the received line indent another 1 cm and also draw. The result will be two parallel lines. The second part is lined in the same way;
  • cut along the drawn lines the groove on both blanks with a depth of 5 mm;
  • make reiki of 1 centimeter width and height corresponding to the height of the future lamp shade from wood and polish them;
  • Lay the bottom part on a flat surface and insert the slats into the groove by tapping with a hammer. The distance between the slats is pre-marked on the workpiece with a pencil and ruler;
  • After all the slats are securely fixed to the bottom of the frame, carefully attach the second blank from above and guide each rail into the groove of the upper blank,carefully with a hammer to complete the assembly of the structure;
  • fix the lampshade to the wall with the help of screws and fasteners.
