Cassette roller blinds

Roll-curtains on the cassette are an alternative to old-fashioned tint and perform mainly the function of protection from sunlight, prying eyes, burning out of the situation. In addition, cassette roll structures allow you to "revive" the room, decorate it, and even change the view from the window.

Design and principle of operation

Cassette roller blinds remind many horizontal fabric blinds, but the difference between these types of curtains is significant. Roller blinds look less formal and add coziness to any room. They differ in their design.

Roll-blind is made of solid rigid fabric full, practically not subject to deformation or negative influences of the environment. The canvas can be of different colors, with a pattern or even a photo print. The fabric also differs in its ability to transmit light into the room.There are also completely overlapping models of light, such as "Zebra" or BlackOut.

Roller blinds on the cassette are supplemented with guides, which are responsible for their movement exactly in one plane, preventing the curtains from sagging or changing the trajectory of movement. The cassette mechanism is responsible for raising and lowering the roll-curtains, providing a soft stroke. The most popular today are cassette mechanisms of the closed type. There are decorative boxes or ordinary white, invisible on the windows of PVC.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are not so many drawbacks to the model, so you should start with them:

  • Manufacturers of cheap curtains often save on impregnation, so that such materials can be difficult to clean;
  • When the curtains are lowered, the window and the window cannot be opened, and it is impossible to ventilate the room.

Roller blinds have a much greater number of advantages:

  • Dense fixation of the canvas on the frame, the curtains will not “swell”;
  • The small area occupied by the curtains makes it possible to use the space more rationally;
  • Well protect from the sun better and prying eyes;
  • They are easy to install even by yourself;
  • Suitable for plastic windows, and wooden, as well as inclined, ceiling and classic. The size of the design may vary;
  • Large selection of design solutions, colors;
  • The price is on average;
  • Easy to care for.

Where better to use?

There are a lot of mounting options for cassette roll systems. They are suitable for residential and non-residential premises, for offices and apartments, for various windows and rooms.

Most often, roller blinds are installed in kitchens, because they are non-staining, do not take up much space and do not require serious care.

Blinds can be entered in any interior, including the classic. Therefore, they are so in demand when you make overly lighted bedrooms or living rooms, as well as balconies and loggias. Roll-curtains will make the balcony more comfortable, giving it a more lived-in look. They will not occupy a lot of functional space and will withstand permanent negative effects: sun, dust, drafts, temperature changes, and so on.

In the nursery Also, you can often find roll cassette design.Usually the fabric is chosen bright, the curtain is supplemented with a photo print or cute drawings. The curtain will well protect from light, ensuring a peaceful sleep.

Very few systems are suitable for designing complex dormer windows, and the roller blind on the cassette is one of them. Ceiling windows are more susceptible to light loads, according to statistics, they account for 30-40% more light than standard ones.

The various light transmitting capacity of the curtains allows you to pick up the desired material, and a strong mount with the help of guides will not let the curtains sag, even if it is installed on the ceiling.

Varieties of systems

To date, there are several cassette systems for fastening roller blinds: UNI mini-cassette systems and a universal mechanism with a spring.

UNI mini-cassettes allow you to attach them directly to the window casement. Depending on the subspecies, the method of attachment is slightly different. UNI-1, or “Besta” is attached to the beadings, slightly covering the window itself, and UNI-2 - to the window frame. In the first case, the guides are completely flat, and the curtain fabric fits tightly to the window; the second option is equipped with U-shaped guides, and the curtain itself does not come into contact with the glass.

There are restrictions that this or that system imposes.

For UNI-1, the width of the beadings must be more than 10 mm, for the subsystem “Besta” - from 14 mm. For UNI-2, the width of the shtapik does not matter because of the fastening on the frame, besides they can be mounted on figured windows, while UNI-1 - only on classical rectangular. Moreover, the curtains UNI-2 can be opened not only from the top down, but also from the bottom up.

Spring designs look similar to UNI-2, but they are equipped with a spring mechanism. Curtains with a spring move along the guides, and a plumb with a control knob is located at the bottom. Unlike UNI systems, spring curtains are absolutely not subject to sagging, so they are used on both slanted and skylight windows.

Light transmittance

Depending on what exactly the curtains are selected for, they are equipped with different ability to transmit light. There are the following types:

  • Transparent roll curtains perform a decorative function and can not significantly protect the window from sunlight, but they scatter the sun's rays, making the room lighting softer. Transparent models are purchased for windows located on the north side, that is, for those rooms that are not bright enough even without curtains.Often, leaving the windows completely without curtains is impossible in order to protect their privacy, so transparent roll curtains are a good choice.
  • Translucent curtains they also do not have the ability to darken the room considerably, but they are more dense than transparent ones and can disperse direct sunlight. Refracting the light, they additionally paint the room in the right shades.
  • "Day-night", or "zebra" - The most interesting view to date. It is a double canvas with horizontal alternating color and transparent stripes (and the color do a little wider). Twisting the curtain, you can either completely make the canvas opaque ("night" mode), or leave the necessary peaks for the passage of light ("day").
  • BlackOut allows you to completely darken the window. This special fabric absorbs up to 90% of the sun's rays, while it does not heat up and does not fade. The curtain is able to provide a full sleep even during the day, when the sun is at its zenith.

Fabrics

For the manufacture of roller blinds, mainly artificial materials such as polyacryl and polyester are used. They themselves have a number of distinctive features, such as incombustibility, lack of propensity to fade in the sun, non-staining. Large selection of colors on the market, allows you to choose the fabric for curtains of any kind: both translucent and opaque.

More expensive options contain blotches of natural fibers, such as flax or cotton. A note of naturalness, by and large, does nothing, but this technique allows you to transform the texture of the fabric, make it embossed and more interesting.

With a great desire, you can find curtains made from completely natural linen.

Natural roll-curtains look more expensive, but the price for them is much higher. Operation of such canvases is possible only on windows that are not located on the sunny side, as they will not be able to protect the room properly. In addition, natural fabrics are more susceptible to fading than artificial ones.

Regardless of the chosen matter, it is treated with a special chemical composition-anesthetic. It fills the space between the fibers, as if enveloping each of them, and protects the fabric from dust, sunlight, moisture.Due to the anesthetic properties of the coating repels dirt, allowing you to keep the canvas clean and new for a long time.

Mounting methods

Installation of cassette roll systems is possible for different types of double-glazed windows: plastic windows and wooden models, but only made according to European standards. Two types of installation are common. The first involves drilling, the second is made using double-sided tape. Below is an option how to install curtains without drilling. This approach is easier and does not require special training.

Please note that all work should be carried out in household gloves. So sebum does not fall on the frame, ruining all the work.

Having on hand a complete set of parts, do the following:

  • Unpack the kit and insert the plugs from the bottom into the guides.
  • Align the bottom of the guides. To do this, attach them to the frame and see that they go in a straight line with a bead and frame.
  • With the guide attached, mark its upper part on the frame.
  • Remove the covers from the cassette eaves. Grind the frame around the perimeter. For this you can use alcohol or acetone.Take off the protective layer with adhesive tape on the eaves.
  • Now be extremely attentive. You need to glue the eaves so that its lower part fits tightly to the places marked with a pencil (those that denote the upper edge of the guides). If you glue it crookedly, the whole structure will be ruined.
  • Now peel off the protective films from the guides and stick them onto the frame exactly under the eaves.
  • It's time to adjust the canvas. Lower it to the bottom and set the travel stop. Test the construction work several times by raising and lowering the curtain.

Care Tips

Care of cassette blinds is not particularly difficult. Attention requires two different components:

  • Plastic parts;
  • Fabric canvas.

They require different wet care, but dry is the same.

You can either wipe the curtain and the eaves with a soft microfiber cloth (it will collect dust and prevent it from scattering), or vacuum it with a soft brush for furniture. This option is not recommended for use, as it is possible to incorrectly calculate the suction force and inadvertently damage the curtains and parts.

To wash the plastic parts of the structure, you can use dishwashing detergent and a soft sponge. Clean parts without foaming dishwashing liquid. Especially polluted places can be rubbed with the soft side of the sponge so as not to leave scratches. Make sure that moisture does not leak into the structure, otherwise the cassette may rust and break. Dry the product thoroughly after cleaning, use a hairdryer in cold air mode.

For washing the curtain cloth is allowed to use foam from the mild detergent. Dense foam should be applied to the stain, leave for a few minutes and carefully remove with a slightly dampened sponge. It is impossible that the canvas is very wet. After all traces of the foam are eliminated, it is necessary to dry the cloth with a hair dryer using the average air supply mode and the average temperature.

If the dirt on the fabric is strong or after drying the fabric has lost its original characteristics, alas, it is impossible to save it. A sensible solution would be to replace it. Do not try to wipe the stain: so you only damage the rest of the roll-up curtains in the process of aggressive cleaning, and replacing the entire structure will cost you a lot of money. Just in case, write down the name of the fabric and its characteristics, so that in the future, without problems, find the same one to replace, if necessary.
