Knitted curtains in the interior

Knitted curtains - this is not a sign that the hostess is not able to buy tulle in the store. This is a sign of refined taste, creative approach to the design of the room, the ability to do something with your own hands and the desire not to be led by fashion.. However, hand-made curtains are a rather complicated element of the decor, which, with one wrong move, can turn the design in the style of Country or Provence into a “grandmother's village kitchen”. In order to correctly enter knitted tulle into a modern interior, certain knowledge will be required.

Special features

One of the main features of knitted curtains, which must be taken into account when interior design is that such a tulle is not going to folds. That is, the curtain should hang at the stretch and without folds, so that the pattern is well read. The curtains gathering in folds have two drawbacks - the pattern is warped and much less sunlight gets into the room. The density of knitted curtains is much higher than industrial ones, so there is a risk of significantly darkening the room.

From the high density follows the second feature - the length of the window curtain. Often you can find a curtain that closes the window only half (top or bottom, depending on the design). This option is quite difficult to enter into the living room, it is more suitable for a kitchen or terrace. Long knitted linen is a salvation for the southern rooms, they perfectly diffuse the light and do not allow the room to get very hot.

Depending on the technique in which the curtains are connected, crocheted or with needles, from which material their third feature will depend - ease of maintenance.

Cotton knitted models collect dust and fade in the sun, and viscose does not hold shape very well.

But all the disadvantages of this type of window curtains overlap with their undeniable dignity - you can independently create exactly the curtain that is required for the design of your apartment.

For different rooms

The design of the window opening directly depends on where it is located:

  • For kitchen or other non-residential premises It is better to choose short curtains. This choice is dictated more by practicality than aesthetics. The window sill is often used as a working space, so long knitted curtains will only interfere. However, it would be wrong to think that the curtains can only be straight or with a tassel at the end. Crocheted curtains may have scalloped edges in the shape of leaves, flowers, triangles, stepped teeth. If the curtains have a repeating pattern (report), then the curtains can be assembled at the edges on the holders.
  • To the bedroom or to the room with a balcony door a curtain of French motifs will be an excellent choice (when the canvas is vertically picked up and assembled in several places). For a large window, it is better to pick up two canvases with a joint in the center, so that it is easier to approach the window sill and the window transom, without knocking down the geometry of the curtains.

Very often knitted curtains are used as a visual overlap for interior doors with glass. In this case, each curtain fits in the shape and size of the glass and is stretched onto the frame with a fishing line fixed in the upper and lower horizontal bead.

  • For a child's room suitable curtains with a pattern in the form of fabulous animals. These curtains look great strung on the window glass.Given that they are usually performed in the technique of sirloin knitting and animal figures are dense, and not laced, such curtains can be used without night.

Different room styles

The technique of knitting loin (alternation of empty and filled cells) is not suitable for all rooms. Despite the fact that it allows you to knit a canvas with absolutely any pattern (even a beginning knitter will be able to draw up a pattern according to the cells), the curtain will have a pronounced stylistic orientation - rustic style. That is, the curtains in this technique are suitable for a romantic kitchen, country house, cottage. An excellent option can serve as a curtain with a fillet as a curtain between two rooms, picked up by clamps or holders.

It is possible to give this curtain of modernity, if combined with another type of knitting, using empty squares and air patterns.

The curtain-kisee, which is a vertically hanging knitted thread on a window or doorway, is now very popular. To weave the canvas and give it an ethnic focus, large wooden beads are used. Plastic is not recommended to choose, as they produce a sufficiently loud sound in a collision. The exception is Kise with plastic beads tied around.

The macrame curtains are very heavy and thick, because strong and tough threads are used for weaving the product. However, they have a great advantage - they hang evenly under their weight, the pattern never gets lost, and if they accidentally touch, they quickly take up their original position. But, as a rule, weaving macrame on the windows is suitable for rooms in the styles of Country, Safari, and it hangs only on the upper part of the window (to its middle) as an ornament.

How to choose?

When choosing curtains, knitted or crocheted, it should be borne in mind that under its own weight the fabric is stretched, so the curtains connected to the full height of the window can be very long in length and lie on the floor. At the same time, trimming knitted curtains without the risk of dissolving half of the product will fail. If you plan to buy knitted tulle, and not to do it yourself, then it is better to find a needlewoman, who is engaged in window decoration. It accurately calculates the length and width of the finished curtains, taking into account the size of the window opening, the selected threads, the pattern and the knitting method.

If you want to buy ready-made curtains, it is better to stop at the machine binding. The fact is that with this method of mating there is almost no risk of running into a defective thread. Their quality is strictly monitored, as a defective thread can cause a knitting machine to break.

When choosing, look at how the thread looks. If it is weakly twisted or spun at all, then the fabric from such yarn will surely warp and correct the defect will not be possible.

If you have doubts about the quality of dyeing, it is better not to take such curtains. The combination of blue and white is beautiful, but before the first wash. Viscose is usually not washed out, but cotton does not hold paint so firmly.

How to care?

Curtains, knitted or crocheted, require a different approach to washing. First, it is necessary to determine from which threads they are connected. If it is cotton, which was not passed by the WTO before being viscous, then it is necessary to wash such curtains in cool water to prevent shrinkage. It is better to use liquid baby powders for this, since they are most quickly washed out of the fibers. Wash the curtains in the bathroom, you can trample them down to dislodge all the dust in the water. If the curtains are knitted with loin knit, then machine washable is acceptable. For viscose curtains washing is possible in a washing machine with a minimum of spin. The canvas from viscose does not warp and does not stretch.

The curtains connected with knitting needles, regardless of the composition of the threads, are best brought to dry cleaning and only order a dry cleaning option.

A good option for cleaning curtains is the treatment of synthetic fabric with a steam generator directly in the hanging position. He will beat out all the dust and dirt and at the same time the cloth will not have to be ironed. If there is no steam generator, and the curtains are very dusty (they decorate a window overlooking a busy street), then you can vacuum them. To do this, turn on the minimum power and take a brush for cleaning furniture. If the curtains are too delicate, then a capron stocking is better to put on the nozzle.

Options in the interior

Knitted curtains fit perfectly into the interior style of Chebbi-chic, Country, Provence, Scandinavian and Russian. Depending on the style, patterns are selected on the canvas, and in order that the curtains are not the central accent in the room, attention is distributed to additional accessories - pillows, napkins, tablecloths connected in the same technique.

For the Provence style, natural motifs, flowers and leaves are chosen. The color of the thread should be pastel - cream, lavender, blue powder. A great solution for country-style curtains are made from the usual square motifs of different colors. Here preference is given to bright colors.

A very popular option is when fabric elements are used to fasten together with a viscous fabric. And how to tie the curtain yourself, you can find out further.
