Desk with shelves - a practical solution for the student

The era when the desk for the student was a rectangular design with two legs, a thing of the past. Now the student’s workplace is equipped with additional compartments in the form of boxes, canisters, racks, shelves, and the table itself can have a very different shape - from oval to zigzag. If the parents have any specific requirements for the place where the child will work, then all of them can be taken into account when individually making the table. The majority of manufacturers based on the norms and requirements imposed by WHO.

Special features

Writing desks for schoolchildren differ depending on the age at which the structure is designed. The workplace for the undergraduate should ideally “grow” with it, that is, have legs that are adjustable in height. This also includes the function of adjusting the tilt of the tabletop.This is necessary to ensure that the child has formed a beautiful handwriting and at the same time not deteriorated posture.

The size of the table top in depth is from 60 to 80 cm, but in width - no more than 1 meter. And no cabinets under it - the furniture should be similar to a desk.

The place for a high school student should be large and wide, while there should also be a maximum of free space under the table. If room space allows, then it is better to move all the boxes and shelves to the case and place it on the side. The more space under the table and the fewer tables there, the easier it is for the child to work, without getting stuck with textbooks in the corner. The length of the table tops about one and a half meters will allow you to work not only with textbooks and notebooks, but also put a nuotbook on the table.

The peculiarity of the table for the high school student is its multifunctionality. At this age, children work less with paper carriers, preferring them to digital ones.

Therefore, the table should be divided into two zones - 100x80 cm for written work and 80x80 with shelves for equipment placement (PC, printer and scanner).

Kinds

School tables are divided into several types:

  • classical (traditional);
  • corner;
  • under the computer;
  • tables with add-ons.

Classic table

It is a rectangular structure. This option is optimal for those who are engaged in creative work at the table besides doing the lessons. Ideally, such a table has a tabletop and two cast legs, the pedestal under it should be mobile (on wheels). It is placed on the outside of the side leg of the table under the working hand, depending on whether the child is right-handed or left-handed. On the other side of the table are the hooks for the backpack and the package with interchangeable shoes. The classic version is only a place to work, for storage of textbooks and office uses additional cabinets and wall shelves.

Angular

These tables are used in case of austerity or if the child has already moved from the lower grades to the middle. Due to its design, it allows you to place on the small area twice the shelves, drawers and compartments for storage. The big advantage is the stability of the structure.

The negative aspects of the corner tables can be considered their monumentality - if the design of the corner table has built-in shelves, drawers and cabinets, then it can be assembled only on the side for which it was originally made.The disadvantages of such tables can be attributed, and their great weight - to move it alone is almost impossible.

Corner school desks should not have a tabletop that is rounded off at the edge. This prevents the child from taking the correct position during work. The exception is made by models which have one edge of a table-top not less than 1,2 meters long, there and notebooks are displayed.

Computer

Table for high school students is characterized by the presence of a deep tabletop and holes for computer cables. A model with a built-in shelf under the keyboard is allowed, but according to parents, 80% of students prefer to use a wireless keyboard, placing it on the table, and during writing work on the shelf.

Table with add-ons

Separately, it is worth noting folding tables and transforming tables, which turn into a bed. Both options are an excellent solution for small rooms, where there is an urgent issue of saving space. Also, since childhood, they instill in the child accuracy.

The advantage of such structures is:

  • the ability to install a large tabletop, on which you can place not only all school supplies, but also a drawing paper with colors;
  • when the table is not in use, it does not take up space;
  • all accessories can be moved to the shelves hanging on the wall above the table.

The inconvenience can deliver regular preparation and subsequent cleaning of the workplace.

The workplace for two schoolchildren is best divided by a pedestal in the middle.

Decorative design

Original desks can be an interior decoration, its main focus, but at the same time negatively affect the concentration of attention of the child.

Avoid decorating furniture with your favorite characters and decorations on the shelves (trimming the shelves themselves with carvings or decorating them with freestanding accessories).

The bright color of the table, for example, pink, blue, orange, yellow, etc., is permissible only in the design of the side walls and built-in shelves. The table top should be a calm pastel color or a single dark.

Table with built-in shelves can be decorated with neutral mirror stickers in the form of flowers or geometric shapes. An excellent decor option will be the multi-colored design of the back wall of the shelves. The space in front of the desk is better to arrange a smooth plastic panel for gluingpieces of paper or hang there a large corkboard with buttons for the schedule.

How to properly arrange?

The classic desktop location at the window wins over other placement options in many ways. When working in the first place is very important lighting, while it should be the front, not side.

The ideal placement of the table is between two windows, when a lamp is hung on the interwindow space.

The fact is that the table directly at the window will be illuminated by the sun, which creates glare on the surface of the furniture, thereby creating an additional strain on the eyes. In addition, a first grader too often will be distracted from lessons on what is happening outside the window. If you plan to buy a table with upper shelves, it is better to choose the corner option, in which the writing part will be located by the window, and storage space will be turned to the wall.

If a child uses a computer standing on the desktop, then do not place the table so that the person is sitting with his back to the window. The monitor immediately loses its brightness and during operation you have to strain your eyes very much.

Do not place the table so that the child sits with his back to the door.Psychologists have proven that this causes anxiety and the inability to concentrate. The same applies to the writing desk for first-graders, located under the loft bed.

Ideal for psychological placement - in the corner of the room with his back to the wall so that the child can see the door, but at the same time know that adults will not immediately see what he is doing. If it is impossible to put a table like this, then it is better to move it to the wall, but leave the door in sight of the child.

Which to choose?

The choice is to start with the materials from which make the tables for students. The version of the same design of quality material will last longer than the budget options.

The table top should be smooth. This is an unshakable rule, which is almost always violated by parents who have not yet experienced the harsh school everyday life of a first grader. This rule is dictated by the fact that the first two years on the table will have to not only write, but also glue, paint, sculpt. Textured table top instantly clogged with clay, paint, glue. After trying to scrub them, characteristic whitish spots and scratches appear on the table.There is only one way out - to sacrifice a table made of bright plastic, laminated smooth coating to the beauty or additionally acquire a transparent overlay on the table across the entire width of the tabletop.

Decorating the table at the end should not protrude beyond its height. The end should be flush trimmed. This is necessary so that the child does not rub his hands at the time of the letter and did not try to pick up another body position in which the wrist and elbow do not fall on the finishing edge.

If you buy a version with a drawer, then the boxes should be small, containing only textbooks. Then nothing will be lost in their depths. It is impossible to save on the runners for the boxes, after two or three months of active children's use, the usual budget runners fail.

Ideally, if the boxes will have closers and runners of this type, which are in the canisters of expensive kitchens. It is better to pay once and not know grief for 10 years than to change the design every six months.

If there is an opportunity, then it is better to take furniture with a large tabletop and a working chair on wheels. For younger students, the chair should not be spinning, it spoils the posture, but the wheels are very comfortable when the child moves from a written workplace to a creative one.

The table top must be matched in size, but the height of the table is directly related to the height of the chair. If you take the standard option for an adult, then buy a chair, height adjustable. When sitting on a chair, the child’s feet should form a right angle, and the foot should be on the floor. To create such a position at the adult table, you have to adjust the height of the chair, and put a stool under your child's feet. The height of the table top relative to the child’s chest is correctly selected if, in a sitting position with the arm down, the elbow is 6 cm below the table.

When choosing a table with shelves, it should be borne in mind that textbooks in elementary grades have an A4 format and a soft cover. Therefore, the shelves must accommodate them both vertically and horizontally. The best option are the shelves are not on the tabletop, but on the side in the form of a rack. It is difficult for a first grader to reach up and put textbooks, so most likely they will just lie on the table. For the same reason, do not expect to store textbooks in desk drawers. It is better to keep the office in the compartments with separators.

If you choose a place to work with a computer,then be guided by the widest tabletop (80-100 cm), which will keep the optimal distance from the monitor to the eyes of the child.

Stylish ideas in the interior

One of the most stylish design options for the workplace of a schoolchild at home can be considered a tabletop built into the overall scheme of cabinet furniture. In this case, the furniture does not stand out visually and does not divide the space into parts. Part of this concept can be considered one large tabletop in the entire wall. The storage system in this case is represented by mounted or built-in shelves with and without cabinets.

A desk with lower shelves only looks beautiful and stylish, in practice it is not very convenient for a child to fold things under his feet.

The most original version is the creation of a working area in the "cabinet". If the workflow is not completed yet, but friends came to visit, the doors are easy to close, thus hiding the creative mess from prying eyes.

The workplace for two children is better to be divided not only by the nightstand with bookcases in the middle, but also to make two separate tabletops. This clearly delineates the space, relieving tension in the subconscious, where children mentally divide the territory.In the neutral zone it is best to install two clocks facing in different directions.
