Tiffany lamps

Every person wants his home to be warm and cozy. It is necessary to take seriously the interior design, because any part can favorably emphasize or spoil it. One of these parts is lighting. It is important to choose the right source of light so that your apartment is bright - and at the same time it has a quiet place to rest. Today Tiffany lamps are very popular.

Stained glass window

Currently, there are many different lighting fixtures, but there is no limit to perfection. Stained glass lamps are gaining more and more popularity. There are several types of manufacturing techniques:

  • the glasses are soldered to each other;
  • heat up, melt and stick together;
  • the forged form is filled with many small glasses, the product is created manually;
  • the contour of the ornament applied on glass is trimmed with a special material, after which the pattern itself is stained with paints of different colors;
  • a drawing is printed on the film and glued to a glass sheet, the result is a photo-print;
  • the glass sheet is treated with sand (under the pressure of the air flow), before that it is covered with a protective film, leaving only those places that will have a pattern - after using this method, the stained-glass window becomes matte;
  • Tiffany appliances. It is worth considering it in more detail.

A bit of history

Founder of the brand - Louis Comfort Tiffany. He was the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, the owner of a world famous jewelry house. Louis Tiffany studied art in Paris. The young man was very impressed by Chartres Cathedral, or rather, the stained glass windows. Since then, this glass has been the subject of his admiration. Luis traveled half the world, studying its features and properties.

Returning to America at the end of the 19th century, Tiffany founded his workshop. It employed about three hundred people. Among the clients were famous politicians, writers, entrepreneurs. The workshop staff participated in the design of the White House, the apartments of the Cuban president.

Louis Comfort brought a new type of glass - "favrile" ("flaming"). It plays with colors so much that it resembles metal.

These models were exhibits of the Paris exhibition and won the Grand Prix.The manufacturer created stained glass windows, bijouterie, lamps, thanks to which stained glass then not only adorned chic houses, but also appeared in ordinary people.

Manufacturing Technique

The peculiarity lies in the fact that every detail of the product is wrapped in copper foil, then placed on the design sketch - and only then they are soldered. Thanks to this, the drawing is complicated, ornate and voluminous, and the lampshade itself is light. However, this perfection of technology was not achieved immediately. Initially, the framing strips were of lead. It weighed down the ceiling, made them coarse and deprived of volume.

As for glass, at first Louis Tiffany used ordinary bottles and bottles in general, but even they looked interesting.

Then he began to experiment. Thanks to this ingenious inventor, the following types of glass are spread:

  • Iridescent: metal dust is poured onto the unheated canvas, and it gets a beautiful shimmer.
  • Folded: warm raw materials are deliberately distorted, getting folds on it.
  • Opalescent: "Muddy" glass. This effect is provided by tin or burned bone.Its severity can be adjusted by changing the amount of impurities.

Tiffany lamp - a product of amazing beauty. Multi-colored glass mosaic gives hundreds of highlights in different colors that create a riot of colors. A variety of colors allows you to choose the contrast of light: make it muted using pastel, or bright, shimmering, using more saturated colors.

Interesting fact

Tiffany worked in modern and art deco styles. These products are characterized by a special type of ornament - natural: dragonfly, lotus, broom, various flowers. Recently, however, scientists have found that the idea of the design does not belong to Tiffany, but to Clara Pierce Walcott, who worked for him. Prior to this, the designer created ornaments with geometric patterns. Clara was a graduate of art school. She has worked in the Tiffany workshop for 20 years. It was she who became the author of the patterns. "Dragonfly" and "Narcissus"which are by far the most famous.

It should be said about the price. Real lamps Tiffany, created by brand companies in compliance with all technological rules, are quite expensive. But on the other hand, they differ in originality, because you can make them to order by inventing a drawing yourself.

For those who are not ready to give a couple of hundred (or even thousands) of dollars for such a thing, there is an alternative: lamps from China with that name. Of course, they are not so unique and impressive, but they are available to a wider range of consumers.
