Microfiber Plaid

Plaid every day more and more densely enters our life. We take refuge in it during the rest, we use it in the form of a bedspread on the beds and sofas, we take it with us to nature. One of the varieties of these textiles is a microfiber blanket.

Material Features

Microfiber is a modern material that consists of polyester filaments. Their thickness is several times less than a human hair.

The manufacture of microfiber takes place in several stages. Originally produced tissue basis. Then polyester threads are stitched on it. Subsequently, the loops are cut and fired with the help of metal. As a result, the threads are separated and form pores with each other, the shape of which is similar to triangles. It turns out a very soft material, while the hairs do not fall out, as the texture of matter is quite dense. Microfiber pile can be both short and resemble weed.

Special features

Microfibre blankets have several advantages:

  • They perfectly save heat.It is easy to warm under such a blanket. At the same time, it will not be hot under it, since matter is perfectly breathable. The plaid is very soft, causes pleasant tactile sensations, does not creak, despite the fact that it contains synthetics. Caring for such a product is not difficult. It is practically not wrinkled.
  • After wetting such a blanket dries quickly, so you do not need to have several such products. It does not wear out and does not fade. Its life is quite large. The microfiber blanket is not a comfortable living environment for pathogenic bacteria and dust mites.
  • Due to the low price, they quickly found their buyers.

But there are microfiber rugs and their drawbacks.

  • In most cases, this is a completely synthetic material, so it will not suit lovers of natural fabrics.
  • It is inherent in such plaids to accumulate static voltage and electrify, which is not very pleasant. They are far from hypoallergenic and can cause health problems, so they are not suitable for everyone. After the threads accumulate fibers of fat, they no longer absorb moisture.

Composition

As part of blankets you can find three types of microfiber:

  • Microfiber modal - It is a type of matter that is made from bamboo pulp. This is a durable and soft material that looks like silk. Durable fabric that does not lose its properties throughout the life of the product.
  • Tactel - It is an American-made microfiber. This is a very gentle and pleasant material.
  • Meryl. This matter is more expensive than the previous two. It has anti-inflammatory and disinfecting properties due to the fact that it is treated with silver ions. Blankets from such material are of the highest quality.

Kinds

Microfiber blankets come in several forms.

  • Single layer. They have only one microfiber layer. In most cases, used as a blanket during the day rest.
  • Multilayer. Such blankets, in addition to the layer of microfiber, usually have insulation and the basis. They are more dense, used as a bedspread on the bed.

Also plaids vary in length of the pile - there are smooth-haired (their hairs are small), and long-haired, their pile is quite long and resembles grass.

The size

The sizes of microfiber blankets are different and depend on the country of manufacture and brand:

  • So for crib or in a stroller a blanket measuring 110 * 140 cm is used. If desired, it can even be tucked into a blanket cover.
  • For single bed used blankets size 150x200 cm. This cover is well suited for older children.
  • For single bed it is worth buying a bedspread measuring 160x220 cm.
  • For double bed the minimum size should be 200x220 cm.
  • For oversized beds plaids are produced, the size of which is 220x240 cm.

The choice of bedspread also depends on where your bed is placed - against the wall or in the middle of the room, and whether the furniture has a footboard. Remember that too large a blanket on the bed can ruin the whole look of the interior, in addition, its floors will drag and collect dust, and folds in the corners will not go as it should. The short cover also looks unaesthetic. It is not good when a mattress looks out from under it.

Color and texture

The color palette in which manufacturers paint their microfiber rugs is huge. Here you can find both bedspreads of pastel colors, and products of deep saturated colors. In addition, they may have a different ornament.Plaids with a floral or geometric print look very impressive. Coverlets that mimic the skin of various animals, such as a tiger, leopard or wolf, are also in high demand.

The texture of this kind of blankets can also be different. Here the pile can be cut in a certain way, forming an imitation of animal tails, monograms and flowers, they can be completely smooth, or have an original stitching.

Manufacturers

Many countries produce microfiber rugs. The leaders in this segment are Turkey, China and of course, Russia.

The composition of products from most manufacturers - 100% polyester. But there are models where there are cotton threads. Basically, the basis for microfiber is made of them.

The quality of blankets is also different. So, Chinese rugs can be often of poor quality. In their manufacture, highly toxic dyes are often used, so when choosing such a blanket, be sure to ask for a quality certificate that meets the standards adopted in the Russian Federation.

Cost of

The cost of microfiber blankets is quite low and lies in the range from 350 rubles to 3500 rubles. So, the usual single-layer plaid of the Russian manufacturer will have the lowest cost, and a blanket with insulation and warp, with thermal stitch, produced in Turkey, will cost up to 10,000 rubles.

How to choose?

The choice of microfiber rug, of course, depends on what you need this product for. If you plan to use it only as a blanket in front of the TV on cold evenings, then you should prefer simple single-layer models. The size here will fit no more than 160x220 cm. The same blanket should be purchased for a hike on a picnic.

If you plan to use it as a bedspread, then you should pay attention to the multilayer models. They will better fit the bedding, will not crawl and get together when you lie on top of such a blanket.

Also it is worth choosing a color matching the interior of the room. It is good if it is possible to support it with other textile elements of the room, for example, pillows or curtains. In addition, the color of the bedspread should depend on which side the windows in the room face.If this is the south side, then it is better to give preference to cold tones. If the north, then warm shades can add comfort to the bedroom.

How to care?

It is quite simple to care for a microfiber blanket:

  • It can be washed even in a typewriter. In this case, you need to select the delicate wash mode and set the water temperature to about 30 degrees. The material is easily washed, therefore it is not necessary to make hot water.
  • As a detergent, you can use any powder designed for colored things. Chlorine-containing substances should not be used to clean microfiber blankets. Such bleach can destroy fiber products and plaid will have to throw away.
  • When the last rinse of this product is recommended to add fabric softener. Softening microfiber is not required, but it will help reduce the amount of static energy accumulated by the veil.
  • You can squeeze the blanket at medium speed. It will not damage polyester yarn.
  • Dry it in a well-ventilated area. The cover can be hung up at the same time. Drying on the batteries of this product is prohibited, thus it is possible to damage the structure of the threads of the plaid.
  • Ironing microfiber covers is not recommended. However, to straighten the pile, you can use the steam generator. Wash this cover should be monthly, provided that you use it every day.
  • You can store the blanket in a collapsed form, it is allowed to use vacuum bags.
