Panel doors

Wooden doors are traditional for our homes. They are beautiful, warm, durable and provide a good level of security. Doors made of wood are available in two forms: panel and panel. The latter have a rather complicated device, but because of this, they are especially attractive.

What it is?

The door is called the insert in the door leaf, the word itself has German roots and is literally translated as “filling”. This is not only a metalworker, but also an architectural and construction term, which in each of these industries carries a different meaning.

In the plumbing business, the panel has the form of a small board made of wood, fiberboard or MDF, which is inserted into the “window” of the main door frame. Usually it is performed with the purpose to decorate and ennoble the door, therefore it has a drawing, painting, carving or lining. Sometimes stained glass or frosted glass is used as a panel.

Special features

Paneled doors look very beautiful and are the most complex in terms of implementation. The presence of inserts in them creates an attractive appearance.

This is especially interesting when an unconventional panel is used, for example, oval, round or having patterned lamellae that look like old ones.

According to the degree of thickness of the panel on the door can be:

  1. flat, for the attractiveness of the master, decorate such panels with decorative or carved wood ornaments;
  2. typesetting, which look interesting due to the combination of various lamels due to the thorn-groove connection;
  3. voluminous or embossed along the edges, which are considered to be classical and are performed using milling, or by pressing the material.

Specifications

The design of the doors with panels is simple and thoughtful. The base most often represents a frame made of a spliced solid wood, on it a frame is fastened, also usually made of wood, the basis of which is directly inserted into a panel. The base and inserts are fastened either to the wood glue, or to liquid nails or by means of a tongue and groove joint, which is fixed by bead pins.

For serious manufacturers, at the assembly stage, a web fastener is necessarily made with screws, giving the structure additional strength.

For increased resistance to changes in humidity and physical stress, technological chamfering is performed at the joints of longitudinal and transverse sections.

Panel inserts can be not only decorative, they can also fulfill functional purpose. In the latter case, a design of two plates is created, between which a layer of insulation is installed. Such insulated doors can be installed as input, or to go to an unheated room - to a balcony or a veranda.

Some doors can be decorated with stained glass or satin glass inserts, which should be at least 4 mm thick. Such inserts are installed in the frame grooves using a silicone sealant.

Usually, the door box is included in the package, the device of which provides for a groove for the platband and the presence of a seal in the false part.

Platbands and dobora can be performed as from the linear arrayso and from MDF. The appearance of the platbands varies depending on the style of the door, in most cases they are semicircular or rectangular with rounded edges. Recently began to produce telescopic platbands, very comfortable and do not require nails during installation.

Kinds

Among all the types of doors are particularly popular for various reasons, namely wooden doors with panels. They have a rigid frame, while complicated inserts-panels, adding extra beauty and representativeness of the door.

Classic view panel doors can be called swing. They are mounted on the rack of the box with the help of two or three pairs of hinges, when closing they fit tightly into the grooves and are convenient for use in those rooms that are spacious enough. The advantage of swing doors is their simplicity, reliability and the ability to build locks and latches. It is possible to decorate such doors with any type of panels, from lightweight to volume or weighted with overlaid patterns.

Another variety is sliding the doors. They can have one or two doors, are mounted on rollers and move along the top and bottom guides along the wall,This option is convenient doors in small rooms. This variety includes cassette doors, radial and cascade. Most often, such designs are decorated with inserts of stained glass or frosted glass, flat panels or inserts made of bamboo or veneered MDF.

The main thing here is not to weight the structure, which is held vertically only by fixing it in the guides.

Panel wooden doors can be folding. These are the so-called doors-accordions, consisting of several narrow doors, connected to each other by means of hinges. They are fastened to the door frame in hinges, and when the flap opens, they move to one side. Locks in these doors are not provided. Very often they are made light and openwork, with thin panels of wood or glass.

A rare and unusual species are swinging framed doors. They can have one or two leaves, are attached to the door frame with awnings, and can swing open in both directions. Such options look very attractive, thanks to the way of opening, so they are not made to decorate with complex panels.

Materials

There are paneled doors that are designed for indoor use, in addition, there are options that can be used as exterior. These two types have significant differences in production materials.

Interior doors are made of thin boards and beams of different price categories:

  1. conifers, such as pine, spruce or cedar;
  2. deciduous, such as oak, beech, elm, walnut, or teak;
  3. exotic, for example, wenge, rosewood or Karelian birch.

Such products carry the name of doors from an array, are quite heavy and durable, provide good sound insulation and are quite expensive.

The treatment of the surface of the tree is usually done in several stages:

  1. primer, which is applied in two layers to achieve the desired shade of wood;
  2. coating with a two-component lacquer having protective and decorative functions.

In many cases, parts of wood are combined with lightweight materials: MDF, fiberboard, chipboard. To increase the service life of the combined door is subjected to lamination, put a layer of PVC film that protects porous wood substitutes from exposure to atmospheric moisture.

Often inside such doors are hollow, or filled with various types of filler:

  1. corrugated cardboard;
  2. wooden bars;
  3. Chipboard.

For a more noble appearance, doors are often covered with materials such as veneerwhich is a thin (2 - 3 mm) section of natural wood of valuable species. The veneer has a texture and color that is indistinguishable from solid wood, and is fixed on various types of wood glue.

Sometimes in the interior doors are used plastic panels, panels, called ekoshpon with which the bases from a comparative inexpensive tree are revetted. In this case, the front surface of such panels is performed with imitation of wood texture, moreover, to enhance the effect, it is covered with a polypropylene film of the corresponding pattern. Such "hybrids" are installed in rooms with high humidity, for example, in bathrooms, pools or greenhouses.

Entrance doors are made of a thicker array of wood, to strengthen them often use metal lining. In many cases, the frame is completely made of metal, ennobling it with wooden lining-panels.

Beautiful examples in the interior

The choice of doors is usually the final stage in the design of the apartment. In most cases, the owners prefer to buy several doors in a single style decision to get a harmonious picture. The choice of color depends entirely on personal preferences, however, it is worth remembering that dark colors visually “eat up” the volume of the room,while light, on the contrary, expand it.

In this regard, white interior doors are especially popular. They can be chosen in a matte or glossy finish, with ordinary panels or with glass. An excellent solution in a classic style will be a door in the color “bleached oak” with two panels of various sizes: a significant upper and a small bottom insert. Chrome or brass fittings, platbands and moldings with complex longitudinal carving are perfect for this shade of wood.

This door is combined with any interior, for example, with sand-terracotta walls, decorated with artificial stone and dark laminate flooring.

Copper or bronze fittings, symmetrically located insert-panels, natural solid wood - everything gives the impression of reliability and durability.

Since the walls of the room at the same time are made in pale coffee tones, it does not seem gloomy and narrow.The presence of decorative lighting in the wall niches and furniture of the same dark shades adds special refinement to the design.
