Rotor doors

Interior doors are no longer a purely functional unit. Today they create a special atmosphere in the interior and can even be its main feature. Modern models are able to save space due to such an unusual opening system, as rotor doors. They are distinguished by their fastening and by the fact that they don’t trite openly, but turn around 180 degrees and literally clean, “enter” into the opening.

Rotor doors are not only practical, but also stylish. No wonder designers prefer them, especially in a small apartment or office. The rotor doors open with a light movement of the free hand, smoothly unfold and free space for free movement. In the closed state, they are no different from a standard single leaf.

Special features

These doors have received the name from the rotational movement which they make.We are accustomed to swinging doors that require at least one free square meter to open.

Rotary doors have a number of advantages that overshadow conventional models:

  • Versatility. Roto-doors are suitable for small and spacious rooms, office space, where it is important to maintain free space;
  • Stylish and unusual design, which is ideal for modern interior design: loft, minimalism, high-tech;
  • They save space because they open in the opening, that is, they are located at a right angle in it and occupy the space of both rooms in this state;
  • They have sound and heat insulation, as well as ordinary doors. Although this characteristic has a greater influence material door and lining-insulation, laid on the bottom edge;
  • They are sealed if an alkaline insulation is built into the bottom of the canvas;
  • Easy to use for adults and children due to the ease of opening and closing;
  • Not afraid of a draft. A strong air flow cannot close the rotor door;
  • Safe.

Rotary is the system of fastening the door, and not the canvas itself.

You can install a similar opening system on a canvas weighing up to 70 kg.This is explained by the fact that the system will quickly fail and the safety of such a structure will be questioned. The door, of course, is unlikely to just fall off, but it can deform. Another condition: the door should not be completely glass. The system is ideal for small-sized housing, children's rooms and apartments with a narrow corridor, where there is a high probability of hitting someone with this door.

Of the minuses, it is possible to note the high cost of installation: it will cost more than the classic hinges, but not more expensive than the sliding structure. High prices are temporary, experts say. Rotor doors are still not popular as swing doors, and people of the old school are openly afraid of such structures.

The final disadvantage concerns the creation of similar interior canvases: it will not work to make it on your own without special equipment and technologies.

Principle of operation

Any wooden door can become rotary if you install it in the opening on the tilt-and-slide mechanism instead of the usual hinges. The opening system of the canvas is simple: it moves to the side and simultaneously rotates around its axis - in the doorway.

The rotor mechanism consists of a guide with a groove in the upper part of the door box and a pivot hinge with a roller, which are responsible for easy opening and closing of the door, its rotation around its axis and movement along the top guide. A lever is installed at the bottom of the doorway, which is directly connected to the top element. The lever locks the door in a vertical open state, which makes the structure safe.

The roto-system is unique in that it does not allow the canvas to sag under its own weight, as is the case with classical loops.

It is known that the loops have to be adjusted as the canvas sags, even if it is not made from 100% solid wood.

The following fittings are installed on the roto-door: a pivoting-sliding mechanism and a magnetic lock (in the open state, the “tongue” is not visible). Additionally, a warming tape is laid in the lower part of the sheet for noise, heat and odor insulation. On the roto-door, you can put the usual "reed" accessories, but this is not necessary, because today there are modern and affordable models.

Kinds

Rotary mechanisms are divided into:

  • Mechanical;
  • Automatic.

The first is much cheaper than the second, opening the door occurs due to pressing the handle. Automatic construction does everything for you: as soon as a person approaches the aperture, the door in front of him swings open.

How to install?

The elements of the rotor system are installed at the factory during the production of the canvas itself: technological holes and grooves are created on the door. Manufacturers of roto-systems usually give detailed instructions for self-installation of newfangled accessories.

Before mounting the structure it is worth making sure that it is complete:

  • The presence of the door leaf with embedded fittings and grooves for installation of the opening system;
  • Door frame with roto-mechanism;
  • Brush insulation;
  • Flat platbands.

It may be necessary to finish the doorway: it is used to overlap a wall that is too wide.

Manufacturers strongly recommend entrusting the installation of a roto-door to professionals, despite the fact that the system is almost ready and it remains only to “hang” the door in the opening.

You can install the rotor doors yourself, but you should consider the important features when assembling:

  • Rotor blades are installed at the final stage of finishing, when the floor is laid and wallpaper is hung. It is important that the doorway fits the size of the box. The maximum allowable clearance - 5 mm;
  • The door frame should ideally enter the doorway, since even a small deviation in size can be a problem in the correct installation of the canvas;
  • The floor, the walls should be smooth. This is worth taking care even at the stage of rough finishing;
  • It is important to pay attention to the thickness (width) of the box - it must accurately enter the opening and not protrude from it. Otherwise, there will be a difficulty with installing the platbands;
  • After installing the rotary door leaf, you need to adjust it: in the upper part of the box there is a screw with a lock that needs to be rotated. Rotation in different directions allows you to adjust the width of the possible gap and the position of the canvas in the level.

Manufacturers

Almost all modern manufacturers of doors sell models of the rotor type. The main ones are:

  • "Sophia";
  • Dorian;
  • "Glad";
  • "Volkhovets";
  • Framir.

Separately want to mention the company Porta Prima. She offers a kit worth from 30,000 rubles (price as of October 2017).The production is located in Fryazino and Kostroma, and the brand has established itself as one of the best.

Reviews

The first doors of the rotor type appeared at the manufacturer Sofia, then the real excitement began on them. Those who first acquired innovative models overpaid well, but were satisfied with the original and practical side of their interior. If we talk about practicality, it also does not fail: these doors open easily and smoothly over several years.

Buyers note the durability of the canvases and the opening and closing mechanisms of the doors from “Sophia”. The quality indicator is very important when choosing, and it is better to overpay for the brand than to save and throw away the rather expensive doors in 5 years.

Among the best rotor systems, users note products from the "Rada". About the factory "Framir" ambiguous reviews, buyers say "handicraft" and not credible mechanisms.
