Features of a brick tile under a stone

The Germans and the Dutch still argue about who first applied clinker. In Russia, it appeared at the end of the 19th century, but after the revolution they began to use cheaper construction materials and forgot about clinker until the nineties of the last century. The active construction of cottages has revived the demand for cladding of this kind. Our article will tell about the features of the clinker tile imitating a stone.

Manufacturing technology

Clinker tiles and bricks are made in one way, the difference between them lies in the thickness of the product. As a facing material, tile wins considerably: it is lighter, and therefore cheaper, and gives less load to the supporting structures. Tiles can be square and rectangular. It is used for cladding indoors, as well as facades of buildings, stairs and a porch.

For the manufacture of clinker use clay of good quality and special plasticity. Pay attention to the mineral composition. Shale clays with high fat content are excellent. The production is located at the quarry, the extracted clay is immediately recycled, it is cleaned of impurities, additives are added. The use of chamotte as an additive gives the product strength, thermal conductivity, and its additives in large quantities make the tile refractory (used for fireplaces).

Raw materials diluted with water are mixed in an extruder mixer under high pressure until a homogeneous mass is formed. The plastic material is passed through a frame-die, it is squeezed out with a long tape, which is cut into clinker blanks. In the future, it can be a facing tile or brick.

Due to the pressure that clay undergoes, raw materials are well compacted and lose voids. For several days, the preforms are dried at the natural temperature, losing 10–20% of moisture. Then they are burned until all the ingredients are sintered at a temperature of 800 to 1,400 degrees. Such material contains no more than 4% moisture.

The color of the product depends entirely on the shade of clay.It ranges from pale yellow to dark brown tones. The variety of colors in products is achieved by mixing raw materials. The natural shade of clay makes it impossible on an industrial scale to stabilize the color of the product. Even in one game, the tone of the tile is different.

It is recommended to mix the entire batch before starting work, and then proceed to the lining, in the end you get the original natural design.
