Carpet

 Carpet

Textiles - the personification of comfort and convenience, and they come in completely different sizes, colors, shapes and even types. Among them, you can not ignore the carpet.

What it is?

A carpet is not just an interior item protecting the surface of the floor from dirt and dust, but also an invariable symbol of comfort. But if the carpet is a canvas with an unfinished pattern (not decorated, not limited on the sides), then the pattern of the carpet is usually finished. If you attach to the second track the same, you get a mirror image of the first.

Perhaps this type of textile gained immense popularity after exploring the whole world with the famous red carpet.Much time has passed since then, but many rooms are still decorated with just such long carpet paths or their analogues in other colors, sizes or made from other materials.

The carpet is really a versatile detail of the interior that can not only decorate the room, but also warm your feet in the cold autumn and winter evenings.

Kinds

By types of weaving the track is divided into several options:

Tufted carpet

Tufted carpeting is a long thread, stretched across the base and hooked into a loop. This is a very durable type of weaving, so these carpets can be used in places with high maneuverability, but most often they are protected for special occasions. Additionally, they are divided into:

  • BerbersIn the case of which the loops are located crosswise at different levels, heights and depths, which allows creating volumetric figures and patterns on the surface of the carpet. Such carpets turn out amazingly beautiful and interesting, besides possess good wear resistance, do not crumple and do not tear.
  • Sack. Their loops are also located at different heights, but parallel to each other. The pattern is also textured. A special case of a mid-nap carpet can be called a velor floor, which has a low split pile, similar to the touch on velvet.
  • Shaggy. There are several variants of such weaves, for example, with a hidden loop - here there are cut and uncut loops, which allows you to create a volumetric indented pattern.
  • Another variant of the bulk surface - with the same level of loops and napwhen the uncut loop is stretched to the level of the pile. High pile carpet with intersection of only carved loops - these are tracks for a woven carpet. In the case of additional quilting, you can get a carpet with patterns from a variety of threads, as the base is quilted by them additionally.
  • Frieze - a very popular coating, made of twisted yarns, fixed by the thermal method, which makes the product incredibly durable, indeclinable and resistant to abrasion.
  • Saxony - subspecies frieze, in the case with which an even higher twisted pile is used, which is located vertically.
  • Without doubt, the coating with the highest and softest nap can be called terry clothwhich is easily crushed and is not very practical.

Needle Coating

Pile threads in them keep within on a basis and the next step are driven in by needles into it. As a rule, carpeting is additionally strengthened with a thin rubber base, which increases their wear resistance and acts against sliding. Needle-punched carpet paths are cheaper than tufted ones, but also have slightly lower characteristics; most often they are laid in high-traffic areas.

Fabric cover

Fabric coatings have long been considered the most beautiful, elite, elegant and expensive, their durability corresponds to the price.

They are further divided into several types:

  • Pile. The oldest version comes from Persia. Pile can be either short, medium or long.
  • Lint free. They look like ordinary non-woven fabric, they do not differ in any particular chic, but they are amazingly practical - they are very easy to clean, they do not wrinkle even under the heaviest furniture. In a different way, lint-free walkways are called rugs, butchers.

Forms

As a rule, many in their heads with the phrase “carpet” have a long and narrow rectangular carpet that extends almost to the horizon line.Of course, the narrow carpet is a classic, but there are also other shapes and lengths.

Carpets are most often produced in strictly geometric forms - a circle, an oval, a square and a rectangle. However, in the collections of some interior designers, you can find rugs of original forms - from a diamond to forms carved on the surface of textiles, although with certainty it will not be possible to call them a carpet.

Dimensions

In order to choose the carpet relative to the size of the room, you need to know only two things for each of them - the width and length of the room and the width and length of the carpet product itself.

For example, the width of the carpet should be 20-40 cm less than the width of the passage in which you lay it. That is, there should be 10-20 cm free space on the sides. This is done for aesthetic reasons, and it will be much more convenient to wash the floor. For stairs and balconies, the standard carpet width varies between 50-70 cm without indentation.

The most common sizes of carpet tracks vary from 70 centimeters to 4 meters in width and from 3 to 30 meters in length. At the same time, the combinations of these two parameters may be completely different - you can find both a carpet path of 70 cm by 3 m and 15 cm by 10 m.

Materials

In the case of carpets, two types of coating are always used - the base material and the pile material. They may or may not be the same. The most popular baseline options are:

  • Vinyl. Durable material, durable and practical, it is easy to clean and can be used in rooms with high traffic.
  • Artificial felt. It is made of polypropylene, has high heat and noise insulation performance, does not slip. However, it is better to lay the carpet with such a covering in rooms with low traffic.
  • Natural jute. Ecological, but not the most practical and durable material.
  • Synthetic jute. More practical than its natural counterpart, does not abrade, but is prone to flaking due to moisture and slides on the floor. As a result, use is also only in residential buildings.

As for the threads, the choice here is slightly larger, and it is more difficult to decide on them. You can divide the fibers into two groups - artificial and natural.

Artificial threads fade very easily, so for rooms on the south side or near the window and it is better not to lay.Such coatings even hold a voluminous shape, do not shrink, they are moisture-proof and easy to clean. It is very convenient that the tracks from non-natural materials can be bent or folded, it will not be worse for them.

Viscose carpets attract the attention of lovers of synthetic safe materials. They shimmer in the sun, lungs. From the practical characteristics - do not cause allergies, durable, do not change color, do not electrify and soft to the touch. However, they are not so easy to care for, they slip and are amenable to the detrimental effect of moisture, so you should not buy them in the kitchen or in the bathroom. Viscose is a product of wood processing, it is completely ecological, sometimes silk or wool is added to it.

Sometimes for the decoration of premises on the street or in the courtyard paths are used "grass". They can be made of both soft and wear-resistant artificial materials, and be plastic (which, of course, is appropriate only for decor).

Silk, wool and cotton should be distinguished from natural materials. They are all perfect for sunny rooms - they will not fade, they will last you for many decades.Wool retains heat well and is suitable for cold dry rooms. Wool and half-woolen carpet tracks can be created both with the help of a machine tool and be knitted - in this case, the rug is considered to be handmade and valued at a higher price. Wool carpet can be vacuumed, which greatly facilitates the care, and therefore you can, in principle, put it even in the hallway.

Colors and prints

In fact, the palette of carpet tracks is huge - in various stores in your city you can find black and white, burgundy and even bright green with blue tones. This is because materials are very easy to paint and most of them do not fade with age.

Very often you can find tracks with natural prints - with lilies, daisies, patterns in the form of interweaving of any stems or leaves. Especially authentic it looks in combination with a long or medium pile and low-key colors.

Special mention are prints for rugs in children's rooms. Where, where, and here the choice is simply enormous - from classic animals and fairies to Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse and Transformers, various superheroes for boys and princesses for girls.Such carpets can really be considered a work of art - after all, the faces and the smallest details of the paintings on them are made with jeweler's precision.

Fashion trends

Recently, minimalist monochromatic rectangular-shaped carpets have become extremely popular. This is a timeless classic, perfect for any interior, whether it is a huge banquet hall or a staircase in your country house.

It is impossible not to say about the gaining popularity of Provence style tracks, personifying the typical French house on the outskirts. These are rugs of any size and any length of delicate colors, frayed or even slightly torn, independently aged, perhaps with noticeable seams - in general, they all speak of negligence and simplicity. They really look like rustic homespun rugs.

Manufacturers

Belgian carpets are very popular Beluchi. These are really high-quality carpets, which are loved both at home and abroad. Their distinctive detail - the presence of fringe, it is on each model. You can also find high-quality carpets from domestic manufacturers. For example, a Russian company Pskovska volost provides small carpet paths of completely different shapes - from elongated ovals to squares-rhombuses. They cost around a thousand rubles. Despite the fact that the sizes are provided only small, it is hande made, that is, handmade products, provided in a single copy or made to order. The coloring of them is rainbow, fun, suitable just for a child's room. These carpets are lint-free, knitted.

Moldavian carpets are not inferior to ours, especially the company Moldabela. Medium-sized carpets from them can be purchased for 2-3 thousand rubles, which is quite acceptable in conditions of high European prices. These synthetic carpets, as a basis - natural and eco-friendly jute, which is not crushed and not subject to deformation.Their pile is medium, made of a hit set, a frieze; patterns on the surface are linear, wavy stripes, and carpets weigh 2.5 kg per square meter.

Close neighbors - the Belarusians, have several weaving factories for the production of carpet paths. They are not so widely represented on the market, but they are easy to find and order through online stores. The quality of Belarusian products is quite on the level, and the prices are quite small. They are also admired with their colors - fawn, melange, peach, pink-lilac ...

Fans of Provence and just gentle shades will definitely appreciate them.

Turkish carpets are widely known. Merinos. This is a real work of art, created both from synthetics (polypropylene, hit-set, viscose), and from natural wool with the addition of silk. You can talk forever about the palette and colors - this company has a huge number of collections, each of which presents models of different styles - from children's rugs to chic carpet tracks. Merinos is also distinguished from competitors by the density of the nap and the color fastness. You can purchase the product within 2-3 thousand rubles for the narrowest.

India, like Turkey, is considered the “trendsetter of carpet fashion”.Indian carpets on the market are represented by many manufacturers - Asiatic London, Cashmir, Esprit Home, JC International, Molton... But deserves special attention Ligne pure. The carpets of this company are full of patterns and styles - here you will find stripes for Provence, floral patterns, plain monochrome canvases, and even massage mats with colored relief stones! Such beauty is, of course, enough - for one massage path you will have to pay 20-30 thousand rubles, while for the usual - within 20. Such rugs will fit both in the hallway and in the nursery (there are also special children's lines) . They are made of viscose, but there are also wool blend.

Choosing for different rooms in the house

Carpeting - a universal type of coverage. Due to the various shapes, sizes and colors they can be placed in any room.

For example, in the case of a hallway, stairs or any other room with a large cross, we advise you to choose a carpet with a short nap (up to 1.5 cm) or even with its absence - you will often have to wash it, therefore it shouldn’t shed or crumble, be heavy.

Pay attention to the track on the basis of vinyl with lint-free or medium pile coating. Synthetic materials in this case is preferable.

But in the case of a bedroom or living room, you can really use all your fantasy. Depending on the interior of the room, you can choose even a terry cloth, even though a needle-piercing mat of any color and texture. You can purchase a walkway from natural materials for your bedroom, as this room has a small cross, and you will not have to wash the product often. Wool paths keep warm well, especially for products with medium or high pile. They are soft to the touch and give a feeling of comfort.

For a children's bedroom it will be a little harder to pick up a mat. On the one hand, there are a lot of designs and colors for children's carpets; every parent or even the child himself will be able to find something for himself, but you need to be careful with the material. So, for example, if a child has an allergy to some kind of fabric or wool, then of course there is no need to take a path that includes at least some of this material.

Pay attention to jute and oval or round rugs with a short nap on a felt basis.

For the bathroom and kitchen you will need a path that is resistant to moisture and does not absorb odors. It must be made of synthetic materials, have a rubberized base in order to reduce the risk of fungus and mold. It is better to opt for needle-punch coatings. In no case should it slide and slide.

Beautiful cover in a modern interior

Select and buy a carpet - half the job, you still need to be able to properly position it. Your own innate sense of taste, a person hired for money - a designer, or the examples presented below can help you with this.

This is an example of the correct location of the carpet on the stairs. Note that it is not necessary for the carpet to cover the entire width of the staircase. It is enough that he covered only the middle.

An interesting carpet in Provence, placed in the interior of an ordinary modern kitchen. It gives it tenderness and lightness, and although at first glance it does not attract attention, it is an important part, a detail that gives a room to comfort. Notice how soft it is - for sure it is very pleasant to walk on it.

In this case, the carpet accentuates the corridor. And it is very competent that the emphasis here is just a rug, and not walls or any furniture that loads walls. The print visually unloads the space, gives it lightness and in spite of the not very muffled shade, the interior immediately becomes lively.

Here is a great way to use carpet in the bedroom. Since the legs near the bed are heavy, have a full-fledged carpet in place of the tracks, which occupies the space under the bed, there surely would be traces on it, which would lead to its prompt replacement. However, this situation will not happen if you use several (three, like here) tracks and just overlap them with a bed around the perimeter. And it looks great, and practical, and nice legs.

For information on how to choose the right path to the corridor and the kitchen, see the next video.
