Bamboo blanket

 Bamboo blanket

Good sleep depends on many factors. It provides the correct mode, airing the room, a comfortable temperature in the bedroom, and other conditions that are indirectly related to sleep, as well as the correct selection of bedding. The orthopedic and anatomical basis of the bed and pillows is certainly important, but it is important to pay attention to the choice of a blanket. But how to choose a product, under which in the cold season it will be warm, and in a warm one - comfortable and not hot? The answer is simple - get a bamboo blanket.

Composition

Bamboo blanket got its name because of the filler, which consists of a natural material - bamboo fiber. The raw materials for the manufacture of this fiber are the leaves and stalks of bamboo, and the technological process of processing can be mechanical and chemical.

The product of mechanical processing is obtained as a result of a labor-intensive process without the use of chemicals; therefore, it is 100% natural, more qualitative and, accordingly, expensive.

During chemical processing chemicals are used that are classified as safe for health. At the last stage of processing, foreign substances are thoroughly washed out and cellulose is recovered.

At the same time, bamboo does not lose its useful properties, and outwardly it is almost impossible to distinguish products of different production methods.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are several reasons why it is worth replacing your favorite weighty blanket made of wool or with a padding of synthetic winterizer with bamboo:

Environmentally friendly material:

  • in the course of growth and maturation, bamboo does not need the use of herbicides and insecticides, so the raw materials are absolutely pure;
  • The chemicals used in processing are completely removed from the fiber.

Antibacterial properties:

  • Bamboo refers to plants that are not afraid of pests, bacteria, fungi and similar "diseases" - they have natural protection against pathogenic factors.The same properties remain with the raw material after processing, during operation and after numerous washes;
  • bamboo fiber helps fight skin inflammation;
  • it is scientifically proven that more than 70% of bacteria perish on the surface of this material.
  • Hypoallergenic. Suitable for people with hypersensitivity and susceptibility to allergic reactions;
  • UV protection;
  • Good thermoregulation. In the cold season, the bamboo blanket reliably warms, and in the warm season it gives coolness. Textiles provide a comfortable microclimate and are pleasant to the touch;
  • Hygroscopicity. Fabric instantly absorbs moisture and dries very quickly. The blanket after the morning wash in the evening will be dry and ready to use;
  • The feeling of lightness and comfort;
  • "Breathable" material;

Performance properties:

  • High wear resistance;
  • The ability not to accumulate dust on the surface of textiles and inside the filler fibers;
  • It is easily erased in the machine and on hands;
  • There is no static effect;
  • The color of the product does not lose brightness, and the definition picture is neither from numerous washes, nor from direct exposure to sunlight.

It is worth noting the negative aspects of using a bamboo blanket:

  1. “Original” product is obtained as a result of laborious work on raw materials, therefore its cost is appropriate. In this regard, on the market often appear fakes or a mixture of bamboo with feather, sintepon, other fillers. Replicas in all respects are inferior to the originals, and for allergy sufferers and asthmatics they are completely unsafe, so you need to carefully study the certification of the goods before you buy.
  2. “Light, weightless” is not a figurative expression in relation to a bamboo blanket, but not everyone likes this property. For those who have always preferred a weighty quilt, it will be very difficult to get used to the new sensations of "uncovered".

Differences from other fillers

Prior to the active use of bamboo in the manufacture of bedding, other types of fillers were popular. Some of them are synthetic, and some are natural. Natural, in turn, are divided into animal products and plant materials.

Fillers made of down, feathers, sheep or camel wool have a sufficient number of advantages.They are warm, cozy, natural, give in to cleaning and serve for a long time. But bamboo has advantages.

Down and feather fillers tend to accumulate dust over time, are not protected from the appearance of bacteria, and can trigger an allergic attack. The exception is "swan's down", similar in properties to down waterfowl, because it is not obtained from dying swans, but artificially, but there are no harmful substances in it, so it belongs to natural materials.

After long-term use, the texture of feather products becomes non-uniform, the down falls into lumps and becomes thinner in some places. They are not afraid of moisture, but in the heat under such a blanket it will be hard to sleep without feeling discomfort.

Any variations on the theme of wool are also distinguished by a feeling of comfort. They are warm, eco-friendly, breathable, easily amenable to different types of washing, serve for a long time. Unlike bamboo, with improper temperature differences in the process of washing wool tends to "sit down", that is, the blanket will slightly decrease in size. Also, hypoallergenic raw materials of animal origin remains a big question.Dust on a wool blanket accumulates faster, like any bacteria, and they are not suitable for warm weather.

For plant raw materials, in addition to bamboo, are also eucalyptus and cotton. According to their properties, they are almost identical: they are environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic, absorb moisture well, breathe, are suitable for use at any time of the year, are easily erased, do not accumulate dust and bacteria, possess medicinal properties. If bamboo helps to get rid of problems with skin imperfections, eucalyptus, rather, is intended for people who often get cold, have problems with lungs, asthma, bronchitis. In addition, eucalyptus has antidepressant properties.

Selection by season

The climate in our country is such that the need to use a blanket may arise at any time of the year. However, the temperature regimes of the summer and winter seasons differ quite strongly, therefore, the blanket should be selected in accordance with the season:

  • All season blanket suitable for autumn-winter period and spring. It is voluminous, warm, but it also allows air and moisture to pass through well, and therefore does not cause sweating or overheating.
  • Winter blanket has a high filler density.It is impossible to freeze under it even in the most severe frosts, but in the warm season the dream will not be so comfortable anymore.
  • Lightweight summer blanket thinner and lighter than the rest. Due to the peculiarities of raw materials from a subtropical plant that serves as the basis for the manufacture of fiber, it is comfortable to sleep under it on summer nights, as well as in early autumn and late spring.

For sure not to be mistaken with what season the blanket is intended for, you need to pay attention to the amount of filler, which is indicated in grams per meter (g / m). The summer version should contain no more than 160 g / m, the best solution for the off-season is 200 g / m, in the cold season the figure should be at least 300 g / m.

But the filler is not all. An important role is played by the material from which the blanket is removed. Optimal for all seasons in terms of quality and performance, bamboo flax and bamboo silk, viscose, and products from organic cotton.

Dimensions

The size of the blanket is selected in accordance with the size of the bed. Traditionally, it is divided into three types: single, double, double:

  • Recently, for wide beds, the parameters of which exceed the standard sizes, blankets and bedding sets of “euro” size are produced.
  • Single bed can be both adult and nursery. The sizes of a children's bamboo blanket are 100-110 cm wide and 140-10 cm long. For an adult, the width parameter is almost the same - 110-120 cm, but the length is much longer - from 180 to 200 cm.
  • A one-and-a-half place implies a corresponding width of 140-150 cm. The blanket should be either flush or somewhat wider - from 140 to 160 cm, length - from 180 to 220. A common variant is 140x205 cm.
  • A double blanket is 175-220 cm wide and 220 cm long.
  • Blankets of the “euro” size have large parameters: 200x220 cm, 210x225 cm, 220x240 cm.

Cover materials

Types of textiles, from which a blanket cover can be removed, are as varied as the type of filler. At the same time, almost any of them can be combined with bamboo fiber. When choosing the optimal combination, it is worth considering some nuances:

  1. The lighter and more gentle the structure of the filling, the softer the textile should be.
  2. For fillers that are poured and loosened, dense fabric is more suitable.
  3. The outer surface should enhance the properties of the inner filling: the wool filler implies the presence of wool in the cover, light bamboo fiber needs light breathing fabrics.

These rules are simple, but nevertheless, some companies continue to produce blankets, sewn them in defiance.

If the description of the goods specified natural bamboo filler, and the fabric chosen is dense, it is worth the alert. Perhaps, inside is not at all a natural vegetable fiber, but a mixture of cheap fillers.

Consider the properties of materials:

  • Universal material is considered cotton. But cotton and cotton are different. Depending on the weaving and impurities, it can be more or less dense, smooth and soft or coarse. So, for example, a tick or twill cover (thick cotton with impregnation or impurity of wool) is more suitable for down blankets than for bamboo, but a delicate and smooth satin cover made of cotton fiber is what you need. The fiber in it will breathe, give away its useful esters, let in moisture and retain heat.
  • A quality blanket can be made out of satin jacquard. This fabric from pure cotton or silk (or their combination) with a unique weaving technology with a woven relief pattern is beautiful and durable. This blanket looks expensive, luxurious, perfectly manifests itself in operation.It is very pleasant to the touch, so even cotton without impurities is very similar to the delicate silk cover.
  • Percale - another kind of pleasant fabric woven from long staple cotton. In the process of weaving, the threads do not twist among themselves, but rather tightly tighten and join with a harmless adhesive composition. It turns out smooth, moderately dense, soft fabric, which maintains the perfect appearance up to 1000 washings.
  • Batista case differs in ease, softness and feeling of tenderness at contact with skin. It is made of very fine yarn, but with its airiness it is dense and strong. He, like bamboo, is environmentally friendly, does not cause allergies, "breathes", is suitable for use all year round, does not fade, does not fade, is easy to wash and dries quickly.
  • Microfiber - This fabric woven from the finest fibers on high-tech equipment. Production is based on the use of a synthetic analogue of cotton - polyester. The microfiber case is soft, pleasant to the body, does not have the ability to roll, fade, fade, wrinkle. Differs in antistatic effect, high transmittance (air and moisture), is not afraid of dust,fungi and bacteria, resistant to many damages. Easy to wash and dry quickly.

Recommendations for selection

Since bamboo gained deserved recognition in the production of bedding, the number of factories producing products using bamboo fiber has increased dramatically, and deciding which blanket is best to choose is not easy. Recommendations from manufacturers and owners will help you make the right choice:

  1. Priority of reputable brands. In any area there are proven companies whose products are appreciated in practice by many users, they should be guided by when buying;
  2. Do not hesitate to ask the seller about the product in detail, check the certification and evaluate the product in appearance and touch. Many people think that a blanket is an insignificant purchase and it is not worth careful selection, like a car or a mink coat, but it is better to spend a little time evaluating the product upon purchase than to be disappointed later.
  3. The composition of high-quality filler should not be present impurities. Not 100% pure bamboo fiber no longer guarantees all of its unique properties in stock.
  4. The material of the boot is no less important than the filler. They should complement each other, and not be combined at random, to preserve smoothness and color after numerous washes. It is best to give preference to cotton covers.
  5. When choosing a season-wide blanket or several options for different times of the year, it is important to correctly evaluate the density of the filler. It is unlikely that in summer it will be comfortable under a blanket of 300 g / m, and in winter it will be warm under 150 g / m.
  6. Determining the size of the blanket, you need to take into account the number of sleeping. If it is intended for a child, 110x140 is enough, for an adult - 120x180. For mothers with a child in the "lodge" the best option - 140x180. For two adults - at least 140 cm in width and 200 in length.
  7. A good blanket is a quilt. The patterned stitch ensures an even distribution of the filler inside the cover and prevents it from clumping during operation and washing. An even layer of bamboo fiber, in turn, ensures an even distribution of heat, air and moisture.
  8. The presence of a cantic at the edge of the blanket is a hallmark of a quality item. A neat, moderately wide and dense edging is necessary so that the blanket does not crumple and retains its shape on its own and inside the duvet cover.
