The subtleties of choosing a board for the fence

In the modern world, the owners of country houses prefer fences made of slate, concrete or sheeting, considering these materials to be more durable than wood. But such a traditional option, as the fence of the boards is still relevant and in demand. After all, modern wooden fences are not primitive palisades around huts, but real masterpieces of art.

The fence of wooden boards has many advantages over other materials. It will not only protect the territory from the curious glances of its neighbors, but also will last for more than twenty years with proper care. In this case, such a fence will be cheaper than a brick or stone. It is made of wood, which is not only an environmentally friendly option, but also aesthetically beautiful.

By the way, in addition to real wood, people often use artificial material that imitates a wooden board that cannot be distinguished from the present from a distance. It has its advantages and disadvantages. Such material is cheaper, and, therefore, you can save money.

Such fences are very different: high and low, tightly knit or elegant, used only for protection or performing a decorative function. The choice of an ideal fence, as a rule, depends on the style in which the house is built and the plot is decorated.

True, in addition to all these advantages, fences from the boards have their drawbacks. Wood is not the most reliable material.. Bad weather conditions often have a negative effect on the condition of the fence. For example, under heavy rains, boards can rot, and in the sun - burn out.

There are many types of boards used to build fences. They are all very different, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages:

• Uncut The primary materials of woodworking is unedged board. It represents the extreme part of the log, which has irregularities with the remnants of the bark.This type of unedged board is often used for the manufacture of decorative fences. Another species - the slab. This is the most unclaimed part of the log, which has one convex side. However, in the construction of fences and this board is not the last place.

• Plastic. Plastic boards have quite a wide range of applications. They are not expensive, and do not require care. Such a fence is beneficial in the country. A plastic board is much lighter than wood, but it doesn’t deteriorate and doesn’t age so quickly. This type of fencing is used to protect the territory from outside views, and not from potential robbers.

• Edged. The edged board is most often used for laying floors, but many use it to build wooden fences. In shops or in the markets they sell blanks, sometimes with a rounded edge or with different decorative elements. For example, there are specially baked boards that are characterized by increased strength and do not rot for a longer time. The main material for the edged board is pine.

• Planed. This type of board is better or second-rate. First grade is a straight, no knots,well-hewn boards, and second-grade raw materials may include some defects. You can distinguish them by the degree of humidity.

• WPC. Another material used is WPC. It is deciphered as a wood-polymer composite that has recently appeared on the construction market. Perfect for building fences. This board does not require additional care, it does not dry out, and is not afraid of any climatic conditions. Looks nice on the outside. Today most often used terrace polymer board. It is able to give the site a more well-groomed and extravagant look than a fence of ordinary boards. It is worth such a decking more expensive than usual, however, the cost pays for itself, because such a fence does not need to be painted. Such a fence will stand up to twenty-five to thirty years.
• Among the KDP is worth noting the deck. This is the most profitable and easy to maintain material. It is most often used for fencing terraces, has a rounded top. The boards are arranged very closely to each other, as a result of which even cracks are not visible. Deck board is a mixture of unedged board and polymers, so it is often called a plastic board.

• Brushed. The board is processed with a special brush, after which the tree frame is visible. The brush slightly scratches the surface, due to what the board seems aged. This surface looks very nice from the side. Most often, a fence using a brushed board is used for decoration, and not just to protect the territory.

• "American". These boards are used to create small fences. They are low and neat. Apply them, as a rule, to fencing terraces.

Having dealt with what types of boards are, you can begin to consider the construction of fences. They are vertical and horizontal:

• Horizontal. The construction of such a fence is planks fastened together and distributed horizontally. Its racks are covered with a sloping bar to protect against rain. One of the easiest and cheapest options is the fence from the slab, that is, the curve of the board.

• Vertical. In this design, the fence all the boards are placed vertically. The simplest and most common of them is a classic picket fence. If it is varnished or painted with dark brown paint, it will not only ennoble it, but also protect it from the weather. It will also look great vertical weaving of boards, and if even in addition to combine it with a picket fence, you get a very beautiful design. An excellent addition to it will be gates made in baroque style.

After examining the types of boards and designs of fences, you need to select a specific option that is suitable for your site. Next, you can proceed to the installation of the fence. For this you need to make a work plan, stock up on materials and tools:

• Boards. First of all, you need to choose the type of boards that is more suitable for your site.
• The supporting pillars can be made of metal, concrete, bricks and, of course, of wood.
• Screws or nails for fixing boards.
• The drill, level and other objects which will be necessary for installation of a fence.

Installation of the fence is also divided into several main stages:

• Any construction begins with markup.. The distance between the support pillars is about three meters, but if they are not strong enough, you need to reduce it to 2 meters.
• The next step is to fill the foundation.because this is the most important stage in the installation of the fence. Therefore, it is necessary to do everything qualitatively, so that the fence has stood for many years. First of all, the wells for the pillars are dug out and filled with solution. They add small pieces of reinforcement or slate for strength. The pillars can be brick, iron or wood.
• By installing the pillars, you can proceed to the installation of spans. If horizontal weaving is selected, first install several vertical boards. Further, boards are put on supports. The top board should be nailed to the supports without interweaving it.
• The final stage is anti-corrosion treatment and painting. For exterior work is used as paint and varnish.Re-processing should be carried out every two to three years to the wicker fence pleased with its beauty and served more than one year.

Wooden bars must be treated with antiseptic. Before this, all irregularities are removed from the surface. The part that will be in the ground is additionally processed with bitumen or fired over high fire.

With simple examples it is easy to understand how to translate your ideas into reality:

• Stone and wood. The first example is a plot decorated in a modern style and complemented by an appropriate fence. For a modern cottage of light brick, a fence consisting of a combination of stone with wooden planks is perfect. It looks all neat and stylish.The fence of this type is quite high and completely surrounds the site. The boards are not too tightly fitted, due to which the yard is clearly visible, but at the same time partially hidden from prying eyes. The stone “base” of the fence does not take up much space and is very well combined with the color of the roof and other details.

• Antique fence. The second example proves very well that not all fences from boards are of the same type. This fence is perfect for a charming plot in the style of Provence. A beautiful courtyard, filled with a huge amount of greenery and elegant flowers, is in itself a great place to relax. And if it is supplemented with a fence of appropriate style, then you will get a real paradise, protected from all sides from prying eyes. This site is fenced with a neat fence of light wood. Only its lower part consists of dense boards fitted to each other. The upper part of the fence looks much more elegant: it consists of interweaving thin wooden strips.Its edges are rounded and look neat. Only a real master can make such a fence with his own hands.

• Reliable protection. The last option is a dense fence that protects the site. It will look good on any cottage with a simple reliable housing. In this case, the fence is made in brown-red colors, the color of the brick from which the house is built. Both the dwelling and the fence are covered with ivy, which “revives” the house and decorates it. In addition to these climbers, the site is not so much green. But the fact that there is enough. Near the fence there are small flower beds. Work with them a little, but they look very good. The same decorative flowerbeds can be placed on the territory of the site itself.

Board fences can be very diverse, suitable for both ranch style and minimalism. This is manifested in the choice of materials, and in matters of finishing, and in what details decorate the fence and the site itself.
