Hidden doors - modern design solution

Hidden doors - modern design solution

Surely in childhood, everyone dreamed of his own hidden invisible room. But to realize this dream was virtually impossible, because to this room should lead some door that you can not hide. If you are still interested in this idea, pay attention to hidden doors - a modern design solution, thanks to which you can not only hide your corner from prying eyes, but also decorate the interior.

Designs

Invisible doors are made of completely different materials - acrylic, glass, wood, PVC, metal, can be found in drywall - and each of these options has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, PVC doors are classically equipped with double-glazed windows or closed with a panel (perhaps you could see them at someone on the balcony). Perhaps their main drawback - not very invisible appearance, to hide them is very, very difficult.

Aluminum is difficult to process and paint. Glass, by the way, are durable - due to professional processing they are not scratched and easy to wash; this is not the fragile glass from which the glasses and wine glasses on your shelves are made. Such doors are made of thick tempered glass and covered with a shock-resistant film.

Of course, yes, the secrecy of such a door may be questionable because of its transparency - however, this problem can be solved with tinting films or the correct design.

From above they are covered with acrylics, an amalgam mirror, often simply lacquered. Often these doors are covered with wallpaper or painted in the shade of the walls, which allows you to make them completely invisible:

  • Doors with hidden ducts immediately puttied and selected directly under the interiortherefore, they can be completely invisible in the wall - only a thin outline is visible. Additionally divided into one-sided, imperceptible on the one hand, and bilateral, which are imperceptible on both sides. As a rule, the latter are treated less frequently, because they take up more space (on the partition between rooms from 75-100 mm) and are harder to assemble. Yes, and, as a rule, the door is hidden only from the entrance side.
  • Doors with hidden boxes for finishing production only primed in fact, they represent a canvas that you need to decorate, paint and putty yourself.

Also hidden doors are divided according to the system of mechanisms:

  • Swing construction. The cheapest option is, in fact, the usual hinged door, just less visible, less standing out from the wall. Only a pen, a lock, or a distinguished thin contour can issue it.
  • Roto-door. A rather expensive option, perhaps the most expensive of those presented, but also attracting the greatest interest. In general, roto-doors are swing doors, whose mechanism is very similar to the turnstile mechanism in the subway. The canvas, in fact, simply rotates around its axis on a hinge. They are very convenient to open - you can just push your shoulder and gently tumble into the room, which is undoubtedly very convenient for relatively hidden doors, because there are no handles that could be noticeable here. Most often, they are equipped with a magnetic lock, which guarantees tightness.

Roto-doors open in both directions and require half the space from that which would be required by the classical swing door. Silent.

  • Pendulum design. Average prices are based on hidden turning mechanisms that allow the canvas to open in different directions. Externally, roto-doors are very similar, but there is one important difference - all pendulum doors are installed directly in the sheds, which are mounted in the lower and upper part of the doorway. The sheds function as a spring axial mechanism, the axis of rotation of which allows the door leaf to rotate at least in a circle. Canopies are also different - with closers and without. In the case of hidden doors, the option with closers is preferable, because the closing takes place automatically due to the presence of a special spring mechanism.

It is the pendulum doors that are most often installed in large supermarkets, and, based on this, you can imagine how well this design will look in a hidden version. By the way, these doors are not particularly soundproof.

  • Sliding design, or cassette mechanismdoor with cassette. Differs in the presence of a special case for sliding doors and hidden hinges. The case is a box which is mounted in a wall, and the door hides inside of it, more precisely, moves inside the wall in which it is installed.Due to this, the door leaf does not swing back and forth, but quietly goes to the side. This allows you to save space, which is especially important in small rooms and apartments, as well as time, because they are installed as easily as possible. Such structures perfectly absorb noise and silently close and open, can be both mechanical and electrical. They cost quite democratic.

Additionally hidden doors are divided into single and multiple leaves. Multiple folds can open in different directions, hide in one side or in different directions, and have from two to an infinitely large number of wings, while single-leaf folds only in one side and only one shutter.

The size of the hidden doors can be any - height at least in the ceiling, at least as wide as the whole arch.

Benefits

An invisible door will be simply indispensable if you have a room that you need to restrict access to - for example, if this is your art workshop, an office for privacy, or if you have a safe, a secret room or something like that. And you can always hide from prying eyes.

Such doors are also capable competently zone an apartment and generally expand the space, allowing you to save it, so often used in small homes. Moreover, they guarantee safety for children - the likelihood that the baby will fly or hit it is minimal.

Of course, one can not fail to mention what a zest such a door brings to the interior. He immediately becomes uncommon and creative, simplicity disappears - even if none of the guests notice the visible changes, you know that you have a little secret in your house. This is also a good reason to boast: your friends will be surprised to learn that there is a rest room behind the mirror, and simply by moving the wardrobe shelf away, you can get to the balcony!

However, speaking of the advantages, it is impossible not to touch on the shortcomings, although the minimum number of them is, in fact, a shortcoming. The first and last, of course, is the price - installing an entire hidden design will be more expensive than installing an ordinary average doorAfter all, skill and this requires more, and the design itself is more expensive.

Installation features when installing a stealth door

When installing a hidden door you need to take into account its design. For example, in the case of a hidden box, it is installed on hidden loops in this very special box - a pencil case. Platbands are not necessary for any design of a hidden door with a canister, because its base is an aluminum frame, on which, parallel to the wall, the same hidden hinges are installed.

Regarding the pendulum door, we can say that the closer of the upper and the closer of the lower part of the doorway must be located in different directions, because such doors open in a circle.

In order to make an ordinary interior door inconspicuous, two methods can also be used:

  • The first is quite radical. It is connected in some cases with the bearing structures of the room itself. It lies in the fact that in the wall breaks free space for the installation of this very hidden design. The option is not the most convenient, as it requires a lot of trouble, skill, time, and can also eat space in the corridor due to the fact that you have to finish building an additional wall there.
  • Second, simple and fast. It consists in mounting to the wall without cutting down the mechanism space in the box or without it.It can be with the use of doors with a hidden case, and with roto-doors, doors with a pendulum mechanism, is especially popular in the case of sliding doors. Also, immediately before deciding to install such a door, you should check the evenness and smoothness of the walls, floor and ceiling. In the case of hidden doors, this question is fundamental, because if smoothness is not perfect, then the doors can cling to the surface when opened.

Door decoration

If you want to turn even an invisible door into a noticeable piece of furniture, you can always use the usual methods of decorating - paste over with stand-alone wallpaper (contrasting with the color of the wallpaper of the walls, with pictures or patterns, photo wallpapers), drape fabric with a furniture stapler, choose for painting or pasting with stickers (any that you want, or self-adhesive paper). Special mention is made of the decoupage technique (the cut parts are mounted on the base), trimming with the help of moldings and mosaic.

There is a completely opposite trend in decorating hidden doors. They can be decorated so that they will be completely invisible.

This can be fully achieved in several ways, the main goal of each of which is to merge with the environment:

  • Under the curtain. This is especially popular in rustic country interiors or Provence, as well as in the classics with its heavy volume curtains. It is not necessary for this to turn the door into the window - you can hang a picture on it, and hang curtains on the sides with beautiful flowing curtains. Or, which is especially welcome in classic interiors, placing curtains or curtains falling in waves across the wall, and somewhere, under this fabric, will be the entrance to your secret room. It can also be located under the screen.
  • Under the wall. Painted in the tone of the wall, decorated with tile or pasted over with the same wallpaper as on the walls, the door is able to fully merge with the interior, and you don’t even have to spend extra money on any design objects. The only thing you need to pay attention to the pen. The classic volume will be too noticeable, it is proposed to focus on the same hidden or flat door handles, opening the door through a single press, or electric mechanisms.
  • Under the mirror. In this case, the door is either sheathed with a mirror material, or a separate mirror is simply hung on it — in full height or in half, here it depends on how much you want to hide.
  • Under the cabinet. In this case, opening the door can be a little more difficult, because the cabinet itself has more weight than a curtain or mirror. Therefore, it is not recommended, firstly, to ask to install a large cabinet - after all, to hide the door, it is enough to have a cabinet of its size, too wide or high will impede maneuverability and constantly knock on the walls. And, secondly, you should not load this cabinet with things, again, to open the door without any noise.

As a rule, such chests carry a purely concealing, one might say, decorative role, and especially do not litter with things - although it is possible to mix several books or office there.

Application in the interior

As a rule, such a door is ordered as an interroom for a private room - a bedroom, study, or workshop. For passage rooms, it is completely unsuitable for functionality - especially, guests should not wander in search of a bathroom or a dining room, from your side, at least, it is impolite to make them do it.

This design phenomenon has received special application in children’s rooms, because a hidden room in which you can create everything you want and not be found is the dream of every child. From your side it will be very thoughtful and, in general, amazing to organize your kid a hidden room - most importantly, remember yourself where his bedroom is located so that he doesn’t do anything dangerous.

Judging by the reviews, in the parental bedrooms a secret door is also often used. This is especially true of large houses or houses in which there are often guests. After all, the bedroom is a personal matter, and no one should be allowed there, so the idea of secrecy is more than relevant here. It is also possible that the door to the bedroom is completely ordinary, not hidden, but in order not to clutter up the space, the dressing room, pantry or study is hidden behind the hidden one.

Offices and workshops are hidden, in fact, very often, because people who spend time here are usually intellectual workers or creators — artists, writers — and often both. And for their work they need, firstly, solitude, and, secondly, the confidence that their creations will not see ahead of time.

You can kill two birds with one stone and install a mirrored door in your house. On the one hand, it will play the role of a full-length mirror, which is never superfluous, and on the other, it will be an entrance that no one will ever think of.
