 Wardrobes

Nowadays, a wardrobe is usually the occupant of a bedroom (sometimes a living room). It's so convenient when all things are collected in one place. And by opening the closet, you can quickly pick up the outfit for a particular occasion.

What it is?

According to the definition of the Short Encyclopedia of the household, a wardrobe or dress or clothes closet is furniture for storing various types of clothing, including dresses, equipped with doors, drawers, mirrors, and hangers. Some such wardrobe is also called paid or dress, but this is wrong - there are no such words in Russian.

Coats, suits, shirts, dresses, blouses, knitted clothes, underwear, hats, accessories can be stored in the wardrobe. A traditional wardrobe is a wardrobe with two or three hinged doors, behind one of which are drawers and shelves, and behind the other or two others - hung for hangers.

The wardrobe appeared in England in the 18th century and was called the wardrobe. (from the French words "store" and "dress"). It is derived from the clothes used to store the chest. In the medieval castles, the wardrobe was used to call a room specially designated for storing clothes, along the walls of which small cabinets were placed. A wardrobe in the castle at the same time served as a place for dressing, undressing, a barbershop, and a sewing workshop.

In the XIX century and the internal content of the wardrobe close to the modern form. In the linen closet there were compartments for hanging clothes, and a little later the equipment of this piece of furniture was supplemented with a mirror and internal shelves. At the time, wardrobes were made of mahogany, decorated with intricate carvings, and used to decorate polished wood.

Today, the wardrobe is not often used to store clothes in the house, preference is most often given to dressing rooms and wardrobes. Nevertheless, it is the classic version of the wardrobe that can give the interior a certain stylistic coloring.

A significant advantage of wardrobes is that if you want to change the space of the room, the wardrobe can be quickly moved to any place.

Types and models

The wardrobe is the cabinet furniture consisting of several sections intended for storage of clothes.

The wardrobe has deaf side and back walls. From the facade it is equipped with doors. By the number of doors wardrobe can be single-wing, double-wing, three-leaf. There are also huge models with a large number of shutters.

Cabinet doors can be hinged, sliding or folding.

A single-door wardrobe is most often placed in small rooms because it has modest dimensions. This piece of furniture provides only a swing opening. It is also called a travel bag or pencil case. Here they store a minimum set of clothes for every day. It is equipped with a small number of shelves and a bar for hangers.

Standard two-door and three-door cabinets allow you to accommodate a much larger amount of clothing. Opening here can be both swing and sliding. In such a piece of furniture there are many compartments for different types of clothing.There is always a section with shelves and drawers, as well as compartments equipped with a bar, which can run along or across the cabinet. The transverse arrangement allows you to store on the hangers a much larger volume of things. In modern models of dressing cabinets, the rods are equipped with a pantograph system, that is, they move forward and retract, rise and fall.

In large wardrobes there are shelves for storing hats, for shoes, a mirror, holders for belts and ties.

Sometimes a standard wardrobe can be supplemented with an entresol - an independent furniture module, which is placed on top of a wardrobe. As a rule, such a module is supplied with shelves for storing clothes and bags.

The shape of the wardrobe can be straight and angular. The straight model has a classic rectangular shape. It is placed along a wall or between other pieces of furniture (for example, next to a chest of drawers or a bookcase). The corner model is intended only for installation in the corner of the room. Suitable for both spacious and small rooms, as it saves space.

A very interesting solution is a double-sided wardrobe.which has opening both in front, and behind. This design is used as a kind of partition for space zoning.

Color solutions

When choosing the shade of the wardrobe, you should follow certain rules:

  • When creating an interior use no more than three colors. If shades of some color are applied, their number should also be no more than three;
  • The color of the wardrobe should be related to the characteristics of the room in which it will be used: purpose, degree of illumination, size, shape. For example, if the cabinet is intended for a hallway, then it is better if it is of light shades (white, beige) in order to visually enlarge the room.
  • A wardrobe of calm tones will harmoniously fit into the bedroom interior. Dark wardrobe (black or dark brown) is best suited for a bright room.
  • In a room with windows facing the north side, it is better to choose a closet of light wood color;
  • If, according to the owners, the wardrobe is central in the room, then first choose a wardrobe, and then pick up materials for wall, ceiling, floor furniture, textiles.If the cabinet, on the contrary, should become a less visible part of the interior, then its color should be close to the color of the walls;
  • Choosing the color of the wardrobe should be guided by the general style in which the room is made. If the room is designed in the style of Provence, then in the design of the cabinet should be used the colors characteristic of this direction (white, mint, blue, aged light wood);
  • Do not forget that dark tones visually reduce the space, light - expand;
  • Very bright colors should be avoided, as they are irritating to the psyche and quickly tire. A deep black wardrobe will also depress the psyche with its unnecessarily mournful look.

Today, the furniture market presents wardrobes of various sizes - from small (narrow or low), designed for small rooms to huge combined cabinets with a large number of compartments.

Classic

Classic style wardrobes never go out of style.The main directions of the classics are Empire style, baroque, rococo, modern:

  • Empire cabinets they have laconic old forms and reserved “imperial” decor. This requires from such furniture high-quality and expensive material, as well as compliance with the surrounding interior. Such furniture is solid, massive, differs in unusual finishing (incrustation, list).
  • Baroque - it is always an abundance of elaborate details (stucco, curls, currencies). But in order that the baroque wardrobe does not “overtighten” all the attention in the interior, it is better to choose models that are not too full of details. You can focus on the quality of the material from which the furniture is made, or on the complexity of the color.
  • Furniture rococo less pompous, although also filled with details and luxury. But this luxury is less heavy. Rococo cabinets look more airy and light, thanks to a more elegant decor, the predominance of bright colors. Furniture products in this style look great in free spaces that are not overloaded with other furniture.

A characteristic feature of the Art Nouveau style is smooth lines, elegant patterns, soft palette. Cabinets of this style are decorated with rounded elements.

Ethnic

When choosing a wardrobe in ethnic style (whether it is Provence, Russian style, Japanese, country), you need to carefully consider how this item will fit into the environment, whether it will be in harmony with it. Perhaps after the appearance of such a cabinet, you will have to add some ethnic details (curtains, lamps, bedspreads) to the interior.

  • Color and style. The wardrobe must be matched in style and color to the interior of the room. Of great importance is the location. The most convenient option for placing the cabinet is between two walls. So the space of the room is used most efficiently. If the door is located in the center of the short wall, then you can try to install two cabinets on both sides of it. And above the door hang the mezzanine. Get a kind of portal.
