Features of wall decoration plasterboard in a wooden house

Today, many people are faced with uneven walls in their home. This problem is not uncommon, especially when it comes to wooden construction. Fortunately, modern manufacturers offer consumers a variety of different materials, with which you can make the floor smooth and smooth. Such coatings include sheets of drywall.

Special features

Currently, drywall is rightfully recognized as one of the most popular and sought-after materials. This is due to its flexibility and reasonable price. Such materials are used for finishing walls in private houses and on city apartments, where uneven ceilings are commonplace.

As a rule, walls in wooden houses have impressive height differences. Therefore, for their design it is necessary to produce high-quality alignment.

For this you can use different materials (from cheap plywood to GVL panels). Most buyers for such works choose drywall. Installation of this material is quite simple. For all the work of the home master can take a little time. In addition, the installation of gypsum sheets will cost users inexpensively. Due to these features, leveling the walls with gypsum panels in a wooden house can be called the best option.

Drywall is distinguished by the fact that it can be trimmed with a variety of decorative materials. It can be paint coatings, wallpaper, different types of plasters, imitations of brick, masonry. However, it is worth considering that drywall is a rather fragile material.

It is not recommended to overload it with heavy and dense materials (for example, natural stone, which has an impressive weight).

In wooden houses, especially if they are built of logs and logs, it is impossible to glue the wallpaper or install the tile withoutalignment. Drywall in this case is a real lifeline. It has various modifications. Due to this feature, it is possible to choose suitable coatings for dry, warm, damp rooms (kitchen or bathroom). This does not mean that moisture-resistant plates are invulnerable, they can not be wetted with water. At the installation stage, these materials are recommended to be additionally coated with protective compounds.

Advantages and disadvantages

Drywall - a durable material that has its strengths and weaknesses.

First, consider what advantages such coatings can boast:

  • First of all, it is necessary to distinguish the durability of this finishing material. Quality drywall is not subject to rotting or destruction. If you treat this finish carefully, it will last for many years, without causing any inconvenience.
  • Installation of drywall sheets is simple and quick. To do this, it is not necessary to turn to the teams of dressers, who often ask for a lot of money for their services.
  • This material has a low weight, so working with it is optimally simple. With its installation it is quite possible to cope without attracting assistants.
  • GKL sheets of high quality are environmentally friendly and absolutely safe. They can be installed in a wooden house without worrying about the health of the household. As a rule, in the composition of these coatings there are no harmful and hazardous substances, so they can even be mounted in children's rooms.
  • According to experts, drywall sheets can regulate the indoor climate.
  • Such coatings do not cause allergic reactions and do not emit unpleasant odors during operation.
  • This coating boasts good thermal insulation characteristics. In a wooden house this property is especially important. With a similar decoration of the walls in the rooms will always be kept warm and cozy.
  • GKL panels are flexible. Due to this quality, such materials can be used in the design of arched structures. The main thing is to find a suitable coating marking.
  • These materials are fireproof. In the event of a fire on drywall, only the top layer of cardboard will burn out. In addition, there are special fire-resistant panels for sale. These advantages are particularly relevant in the case of wooden and log buildings, which are fire-hazardous.
  • Behind drywall you can hide unsightly communication systems.
  • GKL panels are pliable canvases that are seamlessly amenable to decorative decoration. It can be wallpapering, painting them with different paintwork, facing with tiles or artificial stone.
  • This material is vapor permeable, that is, it is breathable.
  • Drywall has noise insulation properties, which is especially important for the rest of the modern man.
  • Gypsum coatings are inexpensive. They can afford the buyer with any budget.
  • As a result of the installation of such coatings, walls acquire ideally even and smooth surfaces.

Despite the large number of advantages, drywall has its drawbacks:

  • The main shortcoming of GKL sheets is their fragility. To break such a material, you do not need to make a lot of effort.
  • It is easily damaged and can not withstand heavy loads. Especially careful with this material you need to be during installation. In case of damage, repair of panels is usually not possible.
    • Although drywall has sound-proofing properties, many consumers point out that they are quite insignificant. For example, this material will not save from excessive noise and squeaking in an old house.
    • Drywall does not like to contact with water. Even special moisture-resistant materials do not last long in conditions of high humidity. Because of this feature, the installation of gypsum panels is not recommended in the bathroom or in the kitchen.
    • Plasterboard sheets are not recommended to be installed directly on the ceiling of the beam. Such walls can change in volume at high humidity, which can lead to damage to the gypsum board panels and their disconnection from the base. In any case, you have to make a frame.

    Types of drywall

Currently, there are several types of drywall, which can be used to finish the wooden walls in a country or village house. Let's get acquainted with the varieties of this material.

    GCR

GKL - simple drywall. As a rule, it is used for finishing household and office spaces in which humidity and temperature are always at the optimum level. This material has a gray color and blue marking. In no case can you install a simple plasterboard in the kitchen or in the bathroom. In such conditions, it will quickly fail.

    GKLO

GKLO is fire-resistant gypsum plasterboard. It is highly resistant to open flame. This effect is achieved by adding special reinforcing ingredients to the material. This material can be accessed for wall decoration in industrial premises, in attics and even in ventilation spaces. GKLO also has a gray color. Marking on this material is applied in red paint.

    GKLV

This type of drywall is moisture resistant. Its composition contains anti-fungal components and silicone granules. Such components allow drywall to seamlessly transfer the high level of humidity in the room.

To make the material more reliable and durable, it is recommended to cover it with various coatings (for example, waterproof paints or primer).

These coatings are green and blue labeled.

Drywall may vary in type of edge. Denote their differences between themselves:

    • PC - straight edge. Such materials are suitable exclusively for dry installation. They do not require bookmarking joints. As a rule, such coatings are mounted in several layers.
    • Criminal Code - refined hem. Such materials paste over with a reinforcing tape, then putty.
    • ZK - rounded edge. Such types of drywall are used only when using putty mixture, but without additional reinforcement.
    • PLC - semicircular edge from the front. This material is not supplemented with a reinforcing tape, but in the future it is puttied.
    • PLAU - semicircular edge, thinned on the front side. Such materials need reinforcement and filler.

    Surface preparation

Before you proceed to the installation of plasterboard sheets on wooden walls, they must be properly prepared. If the house is just built, you need to wait about six months to proceed to the finishing works. During this time, the foundation of the building will sit down, and the drywall will not crack. However, houses from glued timber sit slightly, this takes less time.

    • Before installing wall gypsum sheets, walls must be cleaned and freed from previous coatings, if any.
    • Next, wooden walls should be treated with a special protective compound.
    • Insulate all the cracks that are present on wooden floors.
    • Sand the logs.
    • At the preparation stage, it is recommended to draw a drawing of all surfaces that require alignment.

    How to sheathe?

Wooden walls can be sheathed by hand.

Consider in stages how to produce such work:

    • After preparing the base, you can make a frame. The crate may consist of metal or wood. Wooden structures are recommended to miss the mark with protective equipment so that it does not rot and is not subjected to attacks by parasites.
    • Under the bearing guides you need to take a bar with a size of at least 75x25 mm. For crossbars suitable parts 50x25 mm. Consider that the support should correspond to the width of the gypsum board sheets.
    • To make the frame made of wood more robust and reliable, the crossbar is recommended to install more often. As for the support, it should be in the center of the panel. The crossbar must be placed at the edges of the sheets. Use plastic dowels for fasteners.
    • For wall cladding inside a wooden house, you can use a metal frame. It is more reliable and strong. Metal supports need to be installed with the same pitch and check all the details level. For fasteners in this case, you should use screws.
    • After installation of the batten, heat insulation material is laid, followed by a vapor barrier. Steam insulation film needs to be fixed with material overlapping each other.
    • Install the frame so that it is 3-4 cm from the ceiling and 1 cm to the floor.
    • When the ceiling and frame in the log house will be prepared, you can proceed to the installation of gypsum sheets.
    • Mark the drywall in places where vertical guides will be installed.
    • Trim the top panel and fold into the cut.
    • Turn the sheet and then cut the opposite side.
    • Mark a 1 cm indent from the edge.
    • Bevel the end edge at an angle of 45 degrees.
    • Treat it with emery paper.
    • Drywall must be attached to the crate on the screws using a screwdriver.
    • Attach the sheet overlap, install fasteners in increments of no more than 20 cm.

After that, you can proceed to the final finishing of floors.

It is recommended to glue the seams left between the sheets and putty.

    Useful recommendations

    Note a few simple recommendations.

    • Leave a small gap between the plasterboard. This is necessary to avoid the appearance of cracks in the process of shrinkage of the building.
    • Before installing the frame, be sure to close all the gaps between the bars that make up the walls. To do this, more often suitable tow, fur or reliable sealant.
    • You should not start to install drywall in a wooden house, if the room temperature is below 10 degrees.
    • The frame must be floating, because the process of settling at home does not end in a year and a half.
    • If the interior of the house remains warm and heated throughout the year, the walls should be finished with wall plasterboard with a thickness of 12.5 mm. In unheated rooms it is recommended to use a moisture resistant material.
    • If there is no groove on the drywall joints, you should cut it yourself. For this you need to use a construction knife.
    • For the arrangement of a wooden house, it is recommended to acquire gypsum panels with fire-resistant qualities.

Wooden frames are reliable and environmentally friendly, but they are inferior in durability and wear resistance of metal crates. They need to be treated with protective compounds, otherwise they will appear mold or fungus. In addition, these structures are subject to deformation when temperature changes.

It is better to install the warming materials under profiles, impaling them on the console. The gaps that remain after punching the insulation with the suspension should be sealed so as not to leave paths for cold air from inside. Use only high-quality materials: they will last for a long time, they will not be deformed due to shrinkage at home.
