Studio in the style of "Provence"

Doubt whether to arrange your studio in the style of Provence? The key point is to decide whether this interior suits you personally, and whether you want to create in your own home the atmosphere of an old French mansion, standing somewhere in the middle of a lavender field, far from the city rush.

But first things first. For a start, it is worth exploring what this style is like, which is equally loved by young couples and liberated creative girls, as well as prim aged ladies.

Distinctive features of style

The most common elements of Provence in the design of the room are:

  • The dominant pastel shades are beige, lavender, milky white, pale yellow, light gray.
  • The decor is “antique” in everything - furniture, shelves, partitions, etc.
  • Flower arrangements - the more the better.
  • Only natural fabrics - cotton and linen.
  • Ceramics and porcelain against the background of an aged tree.
  • A large amount of light in the rooms.
  • Rustic pastoral style throughout - striped curtains, tablecloths with floral patterns.
  • Fireplace to match the walls.
  • Vases, baskets and coasters handmade.

Space organization

The key point is as much free space as possible. Even if you have a small apartment, do not forget: the kitchen-living room in the studio will save space, without making expensive redevelopment, which is recommended for the style of "Provence".

Do not be afraid to give up bulky cabinets. It would be much better to organize a dressing area, instead of a partition in which there will be a shelving system, where you can put your favorite books, and any other household utensils. You can choose any color, but it is better that it contrasts with the walls.

To visually increase the volume of the room, use more white tones. Do you want a floral decor on the wallpaper - just choose a pattern with delicate lilac and pink shades, or just paint the walls in aquamarine, it will perfectly harmonize with light furniture.

Floor and ceiling

An important point that will emphasize the sophistication of your studio apartment in the style of "Provence" - a minimum of artificial material on the ceiling. The easiest option is whitewashing or painting, but then forget about zoning, which is so important for the interior.

It is best to emphasize the area with small PVC elements that resemble the ceiling beams of the very French houses that inspire our style. To abuse the lamps on such "beams" is not worth it - they only spoil the atmosphere of home comfort.

Wishes to the floor are the same as to the ceiling - no artificial material, only natural wood of light shades. Ideally, an unpainted floorboard is used, preferably with distinct wear and tear to match the surroundings.

The exception will be the kitchen area. Everything inside is to be as bright as possible, and this is the only place in the apartment that allows for the use of screaming red or orange. They make the floor, but not with traditional tiles, but with imitation of stone. Floral ornaments can be easily combined with a cell and diamonds, the rest is your imagination.

A difference of two to three tones is allowed between the floor and the ceiling. Greater contrast will already be evident, and the same colors are not suitable for all types of premises.

Furniture

Not every sofa, bed or chair will arrange a Provencal host. It is necessary to choose furniture carefully, carefully selecting not only by color, but also by general harmony. The main requirement is a bias in retro, sophistication, and no modernity!

Sliding wardrobes and angular coffee tables with a glass top fall out immediately. There should be a wardrobe, and not three things under the dishes, but only one, of small dimensions and with hinged doors.

A chair with a soft back for the “Provence” is better, although ordinary wooden stools are allowed at the dining table, but always with carved outlines and curved legs. Pillows with linen covers and intricate patterns are highly valued, and their style will only be complemented.

A bed with a forged back should certainly be compact - no need to choose coarse lines, metal elements and so go against the air environment, and thick beams will only increase the contrast that nobody needs. The same applies to the design of shelves - decor tends to ease, but not vice versa.

Aged furniture will be appropriate only with the appropriate design of the floor or walls.Worn legs look better on a “cracked” parquet or against the background of walls decorated with slight negligence.

Price issue

The high cost for the style of "Provence" is a conditional concept. Most designers advise not to waste money, but to try to “squeeze” out of the available things everything possible. Often, the old, but sturdy furniture is altered, and the trinkets found in the closet are used as decorative elements.

Remember one thing - any "Mediterranean" style is based on maximum simplicity without too much chic. And to do something luxurious or not - you decide.
