Sliding gate with a wicket: features and benefits

When arranging the territory of a private house, one of the main issues facing the owners is the erection of the fence and the installation of the gate. Most often, the choice of customers stops on the sliding gate with built-in wicket. They are practical, comfortable, have a pleasant appearance and do not take up much space. This article discusses the advantages and features of this type of gate, as well as their types.

Special features

Sliding gates are movable sash of the fence, which with the help of an automated drive or a manual mechanism moves to the side, forming a passage for the car. In the open position, the sash is located parallel to the fence. Such gates can be made both single-leaf and double-leaf. For the purpose of fire safety, the material of such structures is metal.

The gate inside the sliding gate is recommended to be installed when it is not possible to equip it next to them. It is very important to correctly calculate the installation location of the door: it should not be embedded too close to the edge or in the center of the gate.

As a rule, the optimal location of the door is calculated by measuring one meter from one of the edges of the gate.

The design of this type of gate consists of the following parts:

  • frame in the form of a rectangle;
  • solid metal fabric with a place under the gate;
  • gate with a feigned lath;
  • guide runners;
  • roller bearings installed directly into the foundation;
  • electric drive.

For the movable part of the sliding gate, as a rule, take a steel or profiled sheet. It is installed in the main frame, which, in turn, is produced from a shaped tube. The location of the gate itself is determined at the time of drawing up the drawing of the entire system.

Features and benefits

Movable gates with a wicket inside have both clear advantages and some features that should be taken into account when choosing and installing them.

The advantages of sliding gates with built-in wicket are obvious:

  • Reliability of a design and its compactness. The system saves part of the fence area and is a “two in one” option, for which it is enough to make only one gap in the fence instead of two. The gate itself can be installed in any convenient place at the request of the owner, except, as mentioned above, the center.
  • Convenience of operation. The movable flap moves absolutely silently and very smoothly, so that it does not cause any discomfort. If there is a person next to the design, he will have time to step aside.
  • Resistance to any weather conditions. It is easy to look after gate, they have the long period of operation.

As for other features, first of all, sliding gates with a built-in wicket enable people to enter and exit the fence without the inclusion of a retractable system. On the one hand, it is very comfortable and looks good. On the other hand, this nuance has some drawbacks that need to be borne in mind at an early design stage:

  • For example, the installation of sliding gates with built-in wicket requires a lot of money, especially compared to other types of structures.
  • To mount the cantilever part of the sliding system and the drive, it is imperative to install a concrete foundation on which it will hold. During the design of the fence will have to leave some of the area along it free for rolling back the sash.
  • It is important to remember that even if the gate is slightly ajar, the sliding system will not work.
  • Unfortunately, we will have to face some inconveniences when choosing a lock and door handle. The distance between the gate and the support structure is limited. If the handle is too large, it can prevent the opening of the gate.
  • Another disadvantage is the high threshold, which can become a serious obstacle to the free movement of children with bicycles, carts and the elderly. The inconvenience will also be felt by tall people who will have to bend down under the top crossbar in order not to hit.

Also, an additional door leaf greatly influences the overall weight of the structure, therefore the rigidity of the frame decreases.

Types of sliding gates

There are three types of retractable systems for such gates, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages:

  • Suspension. In this case, the fastening of the moving sash is connected to the top of the guide rail at a level of from two and a half to five meters. The height of the suspended fence depends on the type of object itself. The disadvantage of this type of opening is the limited height of the opening, which can become an obstacle for large trucks and other high vehicles.
  • Retractable along the rail. The opening mechanism is due to the rail, which is installed on the ground. It is the whole structure that moves along it. The sliding part is held by brackets with rollers, which are attached directly to the pole. The disadvantage of such a system is the impossibility of installation in places with increased wind load.
  • Cantilevered. In this case, the design of sliding doors with built-in wicket is held by a beam, which is connected to the vertical supports with the help of roller carts. The supports themselves are mounted in the foundation next to the hole. The guide block can be installed in any place: below, above or in the middle of the moving flap.

For any gate with a retractable principle of opening, a necessary condition is the availability of free space along the fence.For suspended and rail types of structures, the length of this place should correspond to the length of the moving leaf.

In the case of choosing a console type of gate, this gap will have to be doubled.

Options for materials for sliding gates

One of the most common and cost-effective material options for sliding gates with built-in wicket doors is a sheet of profiled sheet or, as it is called for short, sheeting. It is fixed on the frame of the profile pipe.

This type of design can afford every owner, but many refuse it because of external simplicity.

However, if you connect a little imagination, then even such an economical fence can be made quite interesting. It is only necessary to hold the corner on the edge of the corrugated flooring, and you get a beautiful gate with a presentable appearance.

It is also possible to use for fastenings not usual fixings, but roofing screws, matched to the color of the canvas. Such a fence will give the impression of a kind of fortress, because the upper part of the screws looks similar to the rivets of armored sheets.

Another option for sliding gates with a wicket is an evroshtaketnik.Many people mistakenly think that it is a sheeting cut into several pieces. In fact, such gates are similar in design to fences made of wooden shtaketniki, only the shtaketin in this case is metal.

The advantage of this fence, as opposed to wood, is moisture resistance. It is protected from corrosion by a layer of zinc and a special polymer coating.

Also evroshtaketnik do not need to be painted every two years, as a fence of wood.

This material differs from a professional flooring in that it is not a solid fence due to the distance between the parts. This ensures that additional light and air penetrates into the area next to it.

If the owners need to close part of their territory from prying eyes, you can lay an additional row of shtaketin on the back side in the gaps between the first row. In this case, the fence becomes opaque, but at the same time blowing remains almost the same.

It is also worth noting that evroshtaketnik easily combined with other materials (stone, brick or wood).

As an additional decoration for sliding gates, you can use decorative forged elements.Moreover, they can be installed not only on separate parts of the gate, but also along the entire perimeter. This technique can give the territory a very decent look.
