Unis “Horizon” self-leveling floor: types of mixtures, application features

Unis "Horizon" self-leveling floor is a universal coating designed to create a perfectly smooth, flat floor surface. Before you begin work on pouring it, it is important to study the features of the application of these solutions.

Benefits

Bulk coating technology is not new and is owned by any qualified builder. In essence, this is a type of base screed using self-leveling compounds. This coating is distinguished by a minimum layer thickness of only 3-5 mm. It can be built on the basis of gypsum or cement for further laying of parquet, linoleum or tile, or to be finished, that is, the final, which is used for operation.

The special floor from the Unis company well proved in the modern market and has positive responses of professional masters.

The main advantages of the Horizon floors are:

  • effective alignment;
  • solidity;
  • esthetic look;
  • simple installation;
  • lack of seams and joints;
  • long service life (up to 40 years);
  • chemical resistance, heat resistance;
  • matte or glossy surface, depending on the wishes;
  • the possibility of using additional layers;
  • refractoriness;
  • application for any basis - wood, concrete, stone;
  • good adhesion.

As for security, self-leveling floor is considered an environmentally friendly product that does not emit toxic substancestherefore, it can be erected in bedrooms and living rooms, as well as rooms for children.

Special features

Despite the fact that self-leveling coatings from different manufacturers have similar characteristics, the popular floor "Horizon" from Unis has its own characteristics

They are as follows:

  • The material is designed for use in wet areas, but the coating "Horizon" requires careful drying. Filling is made at a temperature of 20-25 degrees.
  • Full drying occurs after six hours, while mechanical loads are allowed after 7 days. Unis products are fast-hardening compounds that do not have to wait for a long time for readiness to finish laying.
  • Mixtures of self-leveling floors are designed to be filled on a dry basis, since swelling and cracks become the result of laying on a wet foundation. The exception is the "Horizon" universal - it can be used when the base is still dry, but this does not affect its strength, reliability and performance.

Also relevant is the issue of material consumption. It cannot be said that 18 kg of a product per meter is profitable, but one should not forget that the quality of the floor is the highest, and the installation is so simple that it can be made independently. The guarantee of 15 years also inspires confidence.

Kinds

Among the company's product range, five types of material received the highest praise and positive feedback from professionals.

These include:

  • Pouring floor "Horizon", designed for laying parquet, tile, linoleum, coating 3D. This is a thick screed on concrete, cement, poured only on a dry surface. Material is issued in packages on 25 kg. Drying time - 5-6 hours, for further work, you must wait 28 days.
  • Paul Unis universal suitable for plaster, cement and concrete floors, quickly hardens, evens up to 10 cm base.Suitable for warm floors, decorative coatings, is self-leveling. It stiffens in 4 hours, after 12 hours decorative trim can be laid on it. Available in packs of 20 and 25 kg.
  • For indoor use bulk coating Horizon-2. It is placed on the finished screed, intended for different floor coverings, increases the life of the floor. This is a self-leveling compound.
  • "Horizon Eco-Pol" designed for interior decoration and heating systems, is used for parquet, tile, laminate. The room should not be too wet. The advantage is low consumption per square meter.
  • "Ultra 23" - coating with a thin layer of alignment. Designed for rooms with high humidity, it is recommended for the construction of "floating" and warm floors. Available in 23 kg paper bags.

Each of these compositions is supplied with instructions for use.

How to choose?

Ready mixes can be used for different purposes, therefore, they should be chosen on the basis of this:

  • Thick floor "Horizon" is necessary when you want to raise the base to 50 mm, but you should know that laying on it will be done only a month later.It is suitable for all types of underfloor heating.
  • To raise the base by 10 mm a thin coating “Horizon-2” is applied. This product has the same pouring conditions and “ripening” terms, but the material hardens for half an hour, so you will have to work quickly.
  • If you need to work at an accelerated pace, it is better to choose the universal "Horizon", it is fast-hardening. After a week you can lay laminate, parquet, tile, linoleum on it.

It is worth adding that all compositions are suitable for rooms for different purposes, but you should pay attention to the level of humidity that is permissible for a particular composition.

Preparatory work

Installation is preceded by standard preparation. It consists of several stages:

  • First, irregularities, defects are detected. Cracks are filled, leveling with a solution of cement or adhesive compositions for laying tiles is performed.
  • The surface is cleaned of debris and dust - for this purpose, use a vacuum cleaner, then the base is washed.
  • You should pay attention to the fact that on the basis there are no stains of oil and fat - this will interfere with the quality adhesion of materials.
  • Primer involves the use of self-leveling compounds.It is necessary to create a certain relief that promotes adhesion of the layers.
  • It is imperative to observe the temperature regime - work on filling floors "Horizon" is carried out at a temperature not lower than 20 degrees.
  • The composition is prepared on the basis of cold water.

It is more convenient to dilute the dry mixture with a construction mixer - so the solution will be more uniform. On the package you can find information on the necessary proportions.

For work may require special doctor blades (spatulas, height-adjustable), needle aeration roller, damper, beacons, kraskozdy. When using a quick-hardening self-leveling floor, you will also need a large mop trowel that allows you to level off in a short time.

Installation: step by step instructions

The finished mixture should be used within 40 minutes and this should not be forgotten. During this time, you need to have time to fill and level the floor area.

Algorithm workflow:

  • Before starting work, the lower part of the walls is lined with edging tape, the width of which should correspond to the thickness of the floor.
  • the solution is laid out on the surface evenly, and then rolled with an aeration roller.
  • the next portion of the pouring is done at some distance from the first one, allowing the mixture to be spontaneously distributed.

For a large area (more than 100 sq. M.) Laying of the floor can be done at temporary intervals. In this case, the seams between the pouring areas are left 2 cm. Later, after 6-7 hours, they need to be filled with mortar using a spatula and aligned.

The installation of beacons is not necessary if the level drops are small (up to 5-6 mm). For uniformity and high durability of the coating, the polymerization process should be natural - no drafts and operation of heating devices should be allowed during freezing.

If in the process of laying voids and bulges formed, they should be eliminated immediately. During the subsequent laying of ceramics or linoleum, an underlayment (2 mm) is mounted, quartz sand, which is thoroughly cleaned before installation.

Professional recommendations

In order to use fluid mixtures correctly and to ensure a smooth and smooth floor, qualified craftsmen advise:

  • not to allow voids, formation of dredging and hollows;
  • with a highly absorbent base should be primed several times.To do this, use a universal primer of the same manufacturer;
  • It is undesirable to fill in the wood, since it is likely that there will be cracks and the lack of necessary strength
  • remove air bubbles that adversely affect the quality and further exploitation of floors, it is better with a roller with spikes and a T-shaped rail, you may also need a hard brush;
  • It is important to protect the floors from exposure to ultraviolet radiation and drafts - you can cover them with cellophane or foil for a couple of days.

The rapidity of hardening of materials provides for the simultaneous work of two or several people, since it is quite difficult to cope with casting and leveling alone.

Unis self-leveling floors are the optimal solution for creating industrial and decorative floorings on their basis and can themselves be a finishing coating. This is a relatively affordable material, given its durability and high quality.
